Dear Panther Families, What a fabulous first week of school. It was a bit warm, and the students and staff jumped right back into learning.
Enjoy the long weekend!

Back-to-School Nights
Tuesday, 4, 6:00-7:30 pm for grades K-2
Monday, Sep. 17, 6:00-7:30 pm for grades 3-6
Back-to-School Night provides parents an opportunity to meet teachers, learn about classroom routines and the grade level curriculum. This event is for Parents Only. Because time is very limited, Back-to-School Night is not an appropriate time to discuss an individual student’s progress.
Back-to-School-Night Schedule:
6:00-6:25 PM: Optional Activities for Interested Parents in the café
- Meet & Greet Administrators
- Meet & Greet Counselors
- PTA Information
- ESOL Program
- SIS Parent Account/FCPS Parent Portal (24/7)
- FCPSOn
6:30-6:55 and 7:00-7:25 PM: Classroom Visits
Teachers will discuss classroom expectations and important information. The teachers will have two identical sessions. The duplicate sessions are for parents who have students in two different grade levels or classrooms. You only need to attend one of the sessions for each class.
Student Rights and Responsibilities were in the Open House packets and will come home next week with anyone who wasn't able to attend the Open House. Please make sure that you have read through the SR&R as soon as possible with your child. Please sign the front page and return as soon as possible to your child's teacher.
For more information please see the FCPS website.
Here at Poplar Tree, like many other schools, we have quite a few students who suffer from life-threatening allergies or medical conditions. As a school community, it is our responsibility to ensure that all students feel safe and respected in their learning environment.
Based on feedback from parents, staff and students, our birthday recognition policy is as follows: no food items (ex. cupcakes, popsicles, candy, donuts, pizza, etc.) will be allowed in the classroom or the cafeteria at Poplar Tree.
If you would like to recognize your child’s birthday at school, please choose 1 of the options below.
- The class can enjoy an extra 10-minute recess break in honor of the birthday child during that week. Please send in this request to the teacher the week before your child’s birthday.
- Donate a book to the class library. Please send in a book with your child’s name and birthday message to the teacher.
- Schedule a time to be a special guest reader in honor of your child’s birthday. Please contact your child’s teacher to schedule your reading time.
Poplar Tree Elementary School thanks you in advance for your support in ensuring the safety and well-being of all of our children.
Please join our Advanced Academics
Resource teacher, Kim Keleher, for coffee and doughnuts on Thursday, September 20 at 9:00 AM in the Language Arts room. This will be an

Program. At this meeting, you will learn about the programs and services we
offer here at Poplar Tree, as well as what services the county offers. We will
also discuss the Level IV referral process, for students in grades 2-6, and testing and identification
