Dear Poe Middle School Families:

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  We are looking forward to seeing our returning 7th and 8th grade students and our newest Ravens in grade 6.  This is going to be another exciting year for learning, growing, and reaching the potential in each of our students.  With the support and help of our families, we know Poe will once again be in the forefront of student success in FCPS.  Outlined below is information regarding procedures and requirements for the upcoming school year, including forms, distribution of student schedules and lockers, PE uniforms, medications, and information for the first day of school. 

Forms:  In order to receive a schedule and locker, each student must bring the following completed

  • HEALTH INFORMATION FORM
  • AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES  FORM  (required to participate in any type of after school offerings)
  • EMERGENCY CARE CARD (Note:  Even though you can electronically update this form, please return the paper copy so verification of information is ensured.) 
  • STUDENTS  RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES Parent Signature page (will be passed out to students the first day of school)

Open House and Packet Pick-Up

Wednesday, August 22nd, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm

You will be able to do the following:

  • Purchase PE uniform:  PE uniforms can be purchased: cotton t-shirts $4; dry-fit shirt $7 and shorts for $7
  • Set up lunch account:   Cafeteria lunch account set up will be available or your student can wait until school begins. 2018-2019 meal prices: $1.75 (breakfast) $3.50 (lunch) and milk that is sold separately is $.60
  • Drop off medication and immunization records:  Health Room staff will be available to accept required parent drop-off and authorization forms and medications or during typical Health Room hours (7:30 am – 2:00 pm) during the school year.
  • Change address if applicable:   If your address has changed, please bring proof of residency (lease or deed) to Ms. Bullock, Student Services Assistant.
  • Update TDAP vaccine records: Every sixth grade student is required by the state of Virginia to have received a dose of TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) vaccine if at least five years have passed since the last dose of tetanus-containing vaccine was administered.   Please return your child’s vaccine verification to the school as soon as possible.  Your child will not be able to attend Poe Middle School until an immunization document can be produced.

New Student Orientation

Friday, August 24th, 8:00 am-10:30 am

(Important:  Please bring your class schedule to the New Student Orientation)

  • All 6th graders and new to Poe 7th and 8th graders are invited to “New Student Only Orientation.” (Note:  If you attended Poe last year, you are not new and you do not need to attend.
  • Transportation will be provided for students from/to their base elementary school.   Buses will pick students up at 7:30 am.   Buses will depart from Poe at 10:00 am, returning students to their base elementary school.  Parents may drop off students at Entrance 1 and return at 10:30 am for pick up at Entrance 1. 

Upon arrival, all students will report to the Lecture Hall.  Next, students with the assistance of Poe Ambassadors and counselors will walk through their schedules, see their classrooms, and meet their teachers.  Remember to bring your class schedule with you!
