Hunters Woods Elementary School NEWS & NOTES | June 15, 2018

Dear Hunters Woods Families,

The 2017-2018 school year has been filled with learning and joy! From the first day of school to the last, we have watched our students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We have created so many treasured memories together as students explored new ideas and built important skills in classrooms and specials. They had fun on the playground and fields, went on interesting field trips, and demonstrated what they learned with special projects, learning nights, and performances. In each of these settings, our students demonstrated kindness and compassion. Thank you for entrusting your children to us, and for all of the support you have given to our staff and school programs. We love to see how eager our students are to learn and to be challenged each day, and we know this is in large part due to your love and encouragement. Yesterday, we promoted our sixth graders to middle school. They will be greatly missed, but we are confident that they will continue to achieve success in all they do.

Please join us at our Open House on Thursday, August 23rd from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. The first day of school is Tuesday, August 28th.

Wishing you a wonderful summer,

Emily Cope, Sean McCartney & Karen Siple

Congratulations on your retirement, Mrs. Sensabaugh! You have touched the lives of our students for 17 years.

You will be greatly missed – especially by our kindergarten students and staff. We all wish you well!

Reminder for Rising 6th Graders

Virginia Law requires that all students entering sixth grade receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine prior to the beginning of school. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) and is usually given around the age of eleven.

In order for your child to begin 6th grade you will need to submit a medical record showing that the Tdap booster was given prior to the first day of school.

The Tdap booster is available from your child’s healthcare provider or The Fairfax County Health Department.

Please see the link below for more information about The Health Department clinic locations and hours: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/hdclinicsite.htm, or by calling 703-246-2411.

You may submit the documentation to Pattie Ono, Registrar, at pono@fcps.edu or bring it to the school main office.
