Overdue Library Materials

books

It is the end of the school year. Please support your student in returning borrowed library materials. Encourage your student to stop by the library and check their record; return any overdue or outstanding library materials to the HMS library; and pay for any missing or lost items (this can be done through MySchoolBucks).

If you received a KIT message, your student has overdue library materials that need to be returned.

Over the summer you can return your library books in the "library" bin in the main office. Thank you for taking care of these community resources.

Battle of the Books 2018-19 List

battle of the books

The Battle of the Books list for next year has arrived! Peruse the enticing list from this year, featuring sci-fi, graphic novels, historical fiction, books turned into movies, and more. The real question is: which book will you read first?

Check out the Battle of the Books 2018-2019 list here.

Students, explore this slideshow during Hawk Time to see which book you will want to read first for next year's competition.

Clinic Reminder

nurse

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.

If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, at 703-904-4810, or your school public health nurse, Nicole Morales, at 703-343-3252.

Genius Hour

Parents are invited to attend the Herndon Middle School Genius Hour on June 13 from 8 am until 9:45 am.

The Genius Hour is the final presentation of the year-long passion projects done by approximately 100 Advanced Academic students in 8th grade science.

Students will be presenting their learning in a format similar to a science fair.  We are excited to share what our students have learned about sports, music, engineering, and many other topics.

Please add this event to your calendar!  For more information, please contact Science 8 CLT lead teacher Amy Helm (alhelm1@fcps.edu) or Tim Hoffman, Assistant Principal and Administrator of the Science Department (TLHoffman@fcps.edu).
