 Note from Dr. Sheers
It’s hard to believe it is June! Just 10 more days of school. Every year it
gets to this time in the school year and I marvel at how quickly the year has
passed. I am proud of what the students learn and our teachers accomplish
during the school year. We have a lot to celebrate! Read more about our
year in review at: https://westspringfieldes.fcps.edu/features/year-review
News and Notes
Thank you!
We are delighted to take
this opportunity to extend our gratitude to our volunteers who enrich the lives
and learning of our children. Our dedicated parent volunteers assist our
students in so many ways. We wish to also extend our gratitude to the PTA members
who spend countless hours supporting our school, teachers and families.
Specifically, we thank Kathy Tran, PTA President and her PTA Board for their
countless hours, enthusiasm and support. Thank you all for helping make West
Springfield the special place it is. Finally, thank you to our families as you
support your child’s learning at home by sharing a love for
learning.

students must have their T-dap booster shot prior to the beginning of the 2018-19

Edwards, in the front office.
Moved or Moving? We need to have
current addresses for all our students! If you have moved, please stop into the
school office so we can update our records. If you are planning to move, also
be sure you let the school office know.

WSES Book Swap On Tuesday,
June 5 for grades kindergarten thru 6 here’s the scoop on how it works:
- Like-new
children’s books (appropriate for students in grades K-6) will be accepted the
week of May 29 -June 1. Please note: we
will not accept books that are torn, stained, yellowed, or in otherwise poor
condition.
- For each book that the students bring in
to swap (up to a maximum of five), a new book may be taken from the selection
provided.
- If students bring in more than five
books, they will be considered a much appreciated donation to our classroom
libraries and/or a local charity. We can never have too many books!
- No books to bring in from home to swap?
No worries! Please fill out the form and indicate “0.” We’ll take care of the rest.
- Students will be given time to swap
during school hours on the Book Swap day Tuesday, June 5.
Coming Soon WSES
is launching our new Mustang Summer Reading and Fun program. This new
program will be based in a school wide google classroom and offer lots of
resources to engage our students this summer. There will be a Google
Classroom site for grades 1-3 which includes different themes such as
dinosaurs, space, animals and much more. Each theme will offer fun
videos, arts and crafts, activities and tons of books from our online book
program MyOn and also book lists for students to use at the public libraries.
There will also be a school wide Google Classroom for grades 4-6 which will
explore themes such as fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, fantasy and
biography. These older grade themes will also provide activities and videos and
lots of books geared for our older students here at WSES. Our goal is to
provide unique learning opportunities for all students so that everyone can
find something fun to explore.
