Drama Production of “Our Town”

This Spring WT Woodson Drama presents Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.” Described by Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written,” the story follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and what we'll just call, "Act III" for now. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and set, “Our Town” is as timeless and relevant today as it was when it premiered 80 years ago. Find out why - get your tickets today at http://wtwdrama.org/. Tickets will also be available at the door, but advance purchase strongly suggested. All seats, all show’s, just $5.

Showtime’s are:

  • May 4, 5 @ 7:30 PM
  • May 5 @ 3:00 PM
  • Understudy show: May 5, 3pm.

Purchase tickets from tickets at: https://www.itickets.com/register/new/397373. Or, go to the wtwdrama website for more information and the link: http://wtwdrama.org/.

Sports Highlights

Boys Varsity Lacrosse

Bobby Solomon overtook his brother Aaron for 1st place all-time when he scored his record breaking 191st goal in a 20-14 win over Fairfax. Solomon finished with 5 goals and 3 assists. The Cavs dominated the game leading 15-2 in the 3rd quarter. 13 Cavs scored points: Fruchterman had 3 goals. Cameron, Bower, Andrews had 2 goals each. From defense, Duer scored his 1st goal. Wright, Cuviello, Sloan, Yost, and Hoffman added goals. Cuviello won 10 of 14 face-offs. Stedham had 4 groundballs with Phan and Farr chipping in 3 each. The Cavs beat Patriot 10-8 the next day for a 9-1 record. Phan, Hoffman, and Andrews 2 goals each. Solomon had goal and 3 assists. Fruchterman, Cuviello, Yost had goals. Garlepp had 14 saves. Stedham had 3 takeaways and 3 groundballs. Duer and Magee had 3 groundballs each.

Girls Varsity Lacrosse

Leonardtown High School traveled from St. Mary’s County MD to WTW on Monday. It was a competitive game with Leonardtown scoring first and demonstrating great patience in their offense for 8-5 half-time lead. WTW made adjustments and came out strong in second half scoring four straight for a 9-8 lead. Rachel Williams, Maddie Stedham and Sarah Wilson had critical take-aways and the defense kept pressuring outside the arc. After Leonardtown tied it up Woodson scored three more for a 12-9 win. Natalie Gates had five goals, Logan Dougherty one, Carlie Hartung two, Cassia Kruse two, and Devin Aslup three. Woodson had a 16-5 win over Lake Braddock Friday as they honored seniors Logan Dougherty (2G/5A), Natalie Gates (5G/12DC/6GB), Sydney Andes (2G/1DC), Rachel Williams (1G/3GB), Georgia Rafter (injured), Mariel Russ (2S/1GB), Lauren Oliver (1GB), Elizabeth Sperapani (1G), and Michaela Whearty (1G/1GB). Additional scoring from Cassia Kruse, Morgan Peterson, and Katherine Friedman.

Boys JV Lacrosse

Any lacrosse game against PVI is going to be tough, but the JV boys' degree of difficulty for Wednesday's game (4/25) increased exponentially when goalie Will Vo twisted his ankle during Monday's practice. Gavin Robbins bravely volunteered to step into goal for Wednesday's game. He acquitted himself well with very minimal preparation time (7 saves) and the defense hung tough through the whole game as fresh PVI Panthers kept hurling themselves onto the field from PVI's deep bench. Woodson's offense put several in the net (Eby, Gormley, Mastro, Swallow, and Wright-1 goal each; Eby-1 assist; Swallow and Wright, >50% face-off control), but, in the end, PVI won 10-5.

Girls Varsity Soccer

On the cold, windy, and rainy night of April 24, the Lady Cavaliers travelled to take on conference rival South County. The Cavaliers jumped out to a 1 – 0 lead at halftime, with Sydney Kulenguski calmly and expertly placing a rebound from a Faith Stynchula free kick in the upper right-hand corner of the goal. The Stallions responded with 2 straight goals in the second half taking a 2 – 1 lead with ~ 20 minutes left to play. Five minutes later, Bella Hite crashed the goal and scored on a rebound from a long-distance blast from Chloe Dawson, knotting the score at 2. Drenched and tired, the teams battled each other through overtime, but were unable to score. The game ended as a 2 – 2 tie. The Cavaliers continue to lead the conference with a 5 – 0 – 2 record.

Boys Varsity Soccer

Woodson Boys Varsity Soccer played South County for a second time on April 26th at home. The first showdown ended in a 2-1 win for Woodson, so South County came to even things up. They were victorious with a 2-1. Woodson played well, despite some absent injured players: Vinicius Almeida and Bruno DaSilva. Fabio Salida started as striker and made numerous creative forward plays, but then came out with an injury. Strong passing by Pierre and George Richard, Harrison Tun, JP Seibold and Andrew Blystone created a goal scored by Daniel Kang. Our Defense was tight, but South County snuck two goals in on Set pieces. To Woodson’s credit, we have not let any team in the last six games score on us in the run of play. With three Conference games left to play, Woodson will have to persevere to improve it’s 5-2-2 record.

Woodson Athletic Boosters would like to thank its sponsors: Hunan West, Klima Orthodontics, Masterman Krogmann PC, Sun Design.
