SOL Schedule 2018 (Grades 3-6)

Students in grades 3-6 will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests from May 7 to June 1.  It will be very helpful if you can avoid appointments and trips which may take your child out of school during this time period.  Make up testing will occur throughout the window based on staff availability to administer tests.  Please click here to view the complete SOL Testing schedule.

Original Works

Did you miss our order deadline for our Original Works fundraiser?  Guess what, due to the overwhelming response, Original Works has reopened the Gallery for your ordering convenience until Sunday, April 22, 2018.  Please refer to your student's letter that you received earlier, for additional ordering information.  This will be the last chance to order.

While Original Works cannot guarantee, they will do their very best to fulfill orders in time for Mother's Day.  Thank you, as always, for supporting Oak Hill!!  If you have questions or lost your student letter, please contact Tara Gildenhorn at tara.gildie@gmail.com.

Peace

These sixth graders represented Oak Hill at the 26th annual “Peace It Together” Summit at George Mason University where they learned conflict resolution skills.

Counselor News

On Friday, April 27th, the Chantilly Pyramid will celebrate our annual College Day!  Staff members will wear clothing from their alma mater and will speak with students about their college experience.  In addition, Chantilly High School seniors will be interviewed on our morning news show and will visit classrooms to talk more about the importance of college and to answer any questions students have about college.

Your child is invited to wear clothing from a college of his or her choice or wear Oak Hill spirit wear.

The earlier a child knows and believes he or she can go to college, the more likely he or she will attend.  Our pyramid’s goal is to start the college conversation with our students and families.  We encourage you to ask your child or children about this fun event and let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support!  -Kimberly Gallagher and Christy Ryder, Oak Hill School Counselors

Staff Appreciation

Staff Appreciation Week at Oak Hill Elementary is quickly approaching!  It is less than one month away and is taking place May 7-11.  We have a great week of festivities planned (including a catered lunch) that is sure to let our teachers and staff feel valued and appreciated.

We have two ways for parents to make a meaningful contribution to the festivities. You can either donate your time or make a voluntary monetary contribution.

VOLUNTARY MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS

We are taking a slightly different approach this year and rather than asking parents to contribute supplies, we are asking for monetary donations to cover the costs of the week-long festivities. Its a quick and easy way for you to let the teachers and staff know how much you appreciate all that they do for your children.  We are accepting voluntary donations up until May 2, 2018. Donations may be made in three ways:

1. Check (made payable to "Lauren Meurlin" and sent in to the main office in an envelope labelled for "Lauren Meurlin, PTA Hospitality Coordinator")

2. Cash (sent in to the main office in an envelope labeled for "Lauren Meurlin, PTA Hospitality Coordinator)

3. Paypal (https://www.paypal.me/LaurenMeurlin). If prompted, be sure to select that you are sending a payment "to a friend" to avoid paying transaction fees.

A donation of $10 per student is suggested, but any amount is welcome. For more information about how to make a monetary donation, please click here.

VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME

If you are interested in volunteering your time to help set-up and execute the planned festivities, please click here.
