Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to commend the students and staff for their
cooperation today in conducting an orderly and peaceful observation in honor of
the 17 victims from Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. We
had a small group of students exit and reenter the building in an orderly
fashion and were outside briefly. After
five minutes, I escorted the group out
of the cold to a room where we spent the remainder of the 17 minutes. Mr. Credle, Mrs. Gallagher and Mrs. Ryder were
all present and some students chose to share what was on their minds.
Our school is committed to providing an environment where
everyone is treated with respect and encouraged to help others. Our
teachers, administrators and staff continue to reinforce a sense of positive
school community and we ask for your partnership in working with your child to
discuss meaningful actions that they can take to engage in their community.
We continue to find ways to tighten safety procedures at Oak
Hill. You might notice that school staff
will be asking all visitors what the nature of their visit is to our school
before unlocking the doors. We also ask
that you “kiss and go” outside of the school building. Parents should not be in the lobby or
vestibule if they haven’t officially checked in at the front office. At dismissal, again, parents are asked to wait
outside.
Thank you for being a partner with us in our efforts to keep
our school safe!
Sincerely,
Holly DeVore, Principal
