Great players and crowd for the annual Lees Corner vs. Oak Hill basketball game.

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

What an awesome 6th Grade Basketball Game last Friday night!  So many of you were able to come out and support our school with either your attendance or through the many volunteer positions.  Did you hear the final score?  Oak Hill 80 and Lees Corner 24!  Most importantly, our students showed great sportsmanship and made many memories to take with them in the years ahead.  Lees Corner did edge Oak Hill in the Staff Shoot Out, but boy did we have a ton of fun trying! Have a wonderful weekend! Only one more week until Spring Break!

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill.  My door is always open!

Sincerely,

Holly DeVore, Principal

New Oak Hill Website

The new Oak Hill Website is now live! We are excited about the new look and features that are now available and we're sure that you will find it easier to navigate.

If you are not able to find the information you need on our home page, you can use any of the following:

  • Search Function, similar to the way you would look for information on Google,
  • Top Menu, which links to main topics including About, Academics, Activities, Resources, and Contact
  • Full Menu, in the upper left-hand corner of the home page, which shows all the items under the main topics.

Our new site offers several important advantages, including:

  • Displaying on mobile devices, an important feature because so many of you are coming to the site through cell phones,
  • Enabling the easy sharing of content between school and Fairfax County Public Schools (for example, emergency alerts about weather closures etc. from the main site will be promptly displayed on the school site),
  • The ability to translate the site content into 75 different languages,
  • Making navigation of sites easier for parents as children progress through the FCPS schools because all sites will feature similar menus, and
  • Featuring accessibility to all users with disabilities (508 compliant).

While we have tried to include all of the information that you have come to rely on, there may be something that we have forgotten. If this is the case, feel free to contact our web curator Tammy Ofano at tlofano@fcps.eduWe hope you’ll visit the website often and stay involved!

Mass Flyer Distribution

Twice a year we give non-profit groups the opportunity to send paper flyers home with students.  These flyers must relate to the schools’ primary function, the education of students. The spring distribution date will be Wednesday, April 11th.  If your group wishes to distribute something, the following disclaimer must be printed on the flyers “These materials are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, or this school.”  Flyers must be delivered to the school by Monday, April 9th.  They must already be counted out into 36 groups of 30.  Please contact Denise Russ at doruss@fcps.edu to get approval for your flyer.

Year

Yearbook Orders

Yearbooks are now on sale! Pre-order your book by clicking here and entering the code 13278318. Yearbooks are $19. New this year: add extra features for an additional cost. See the flyer in your child’s Wednesday folder or visit the website for more information.

The last day for orders will be March 21. This deadline will NOT be extended. There will be a limited number of yearbooks available for purchase on a first come, first served basis at the end of the school year. The extra features will not be available at that time, and the price of the yearbook will increase. Don’t wait! Order today!

Contact Mrs. O’Malley with any questions at jmomalley@fcps.edu.

Oak Hill Garden

Spring is almost here and we will be ready to begin spring clean-up/planting in our Oak Hill garden!  We are in need of parent volunteers who would be able to help with planting, watering, weeding, etc. throughout the spring, summer, and fall.  If you are interested in volunteering or want more information about this wonderful opportunity to be a part of a great learning experience for our Oak Hill students and families, please email Jane Wheeler at jgwheeler@fcps.edu

Counselor News

Oak Hill’s Student Services Department is pleased to announce our fourth annual Stress Less, Laugh More Week starting April 3rd!

Our goal is to emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle and to teach our students positive strategies to deal with stressful moments. Each day will have a different theme with fun activities and will conclude with a school-wide PAJAMA DAY! Back by popular demand, we will also have therapy dogs on site for interested classrooms to visit.  This a great week to promote stress management, positive relationships, and help-seeking for all of our students.
