Sandburg Families,

Over the past few weeks, I have been meeting with groups of students and staff members to gather feedback about the school year. I really enjoy chatting and understanding multiple perspectives, as we work to provide great experiences for our students. I truly believe that we are fortifying a great foundation for outstanding work at Sandburg, while focusing on high quality instruction and a positive school culture. There are so many great things to celebrate about our school. I am reminded of them each day, interacting with staff, students, and families.

We have been welcoming 6th graders from some of our feeder schools, preparing for their transition to Sandburg MS. It was great to visit with them, see their smiling faces, and capture their anticipation and excitement. In just one week, our students and staff will enjoy a well-deserved Spring Break. Please take the time to enjoy some rest and relaxation. I hope our students will take advantage of the time to recharge and refocus for the remaining months of school. We are poised to have a great Panther Pride Spirit Week, beginning March 19th.

A special note of thanks to our PTA, for hosting our Blue vs. Silver student basketball game. It was an awesome community event. I am grateful for their ongoing support and commitment to Sandburg. I am sharing a link with pictures from the event:

If your kids participated in the event, please feel free to download a photo or two. I want to extend my gratitude to our supportive families for trusting us with your children each and every day. Let’s continue to collaborate and strengthen our home-school connection.

Have a pleasant weekend.

VIP Camp

Parents/Guardians,

What is your middle school child doing this summer? Like you, we believe your child is a very important person and deserves a summer experience that is safe and full of fitness, friends, fun and enrichment.  FCPS and Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) have teamed up to offer a camp for rising 7th and 8th graders in the Sandburg, Whitman, Twain, Key and Hayfield area.  Campers will have a great time playing sports, games, doing arts and crafts and exploring concepts in science and technology. Field trips to local water parks and amusement parks also give campers exciting experiences to look forward to with their new camp friends.  The staff is led by school-based After School Program Specialists and trained NCS staff.

There is a $50 VIP Camp Supply Fee that will be collected from all camp participants.  Campers must also pay for admittance on field trips.  Registration will be announced by website on March 19, 2018.  With limited spaces available, it’s important to submit your registration as soon as possible.

Heather Jones with Senator Tim Kaine at the Association for Career and Technical Education's US Senate Caucus reception.  Heather and the students of Carl Sandburg Middle School FCCLA were the only middle school to present at this national event.  Kudos to Heather for her leadership, dedication, and exceptional instruction.
