Our students in Battle of the Books did an outstanding job! It was an amazing battle. Great reading! Thanks to Mrs. Uncles and Mrs. Radler for their hard-work with the Battle of the Books!
If you have a child who will be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2018,
your child is eligible to attend kindergarten in the 2018-2019 school
year. If you have not yet contacted us about your rising kindergartner, please
call our registrar, Kirsten Prindle, at 703-633-7400 or email kcprindle@fcps.edu as soon as possible to
receive registration forms and information.
Mark your calendars for Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, April 20, 9-10am. This event will include an information session for
parents and an introduction to the classrooms and kindergarten activities for
our rising kindergarten students.
Please share this news with your
neighbors!
Safety/Security Reminders
As we continue to focus on safety and security at Poplar Tree we have just a few reminders.
- All exterior doors must be locked and closed. Please do not prop open the doors and look to be sure they are closed behind you as you enter and exit the building.
- Per the FCPS Proper Use of Electronic Door Access, each visitor will be asked to identify themselves and their reason for entering Poplar Tree.
- Staff has also been asked to be careful of what Safety and Security call "piggybacking." Piggybacking is when a visitor comes in behind someone who has been granted entry.
- Visitors must sign in with the online system using their driver's license or other government issued photo ID.
Please know that staff are not trying to be rude or deny any person with legitimate reasons to enter the building. These are just some of the items that have been shown to increase the safety of schools.
SOL season is quickly approaching, and all students in grades 3-6 will be testing on the FCPSOn student laptops this year.
Here are a few things that students and parents need to do and be aware of
prior to testing, to make sure SOL testing season is a success:
- Students need to shut down their computer each day before leaving school or home. Shutting down daily will ensure that computers don’t go into
update mode during SOL testing. It also helps maintain battery life and prevents overheating.
- If your child's computer needs to be fixed, please have your child tell his/her teacher as soon as possible
to allow enough time for repairs prior to SOL testing.
- If your child's charger is broken or misplaced, please let the teacher know immediately so a replacement can be ordered.
Chantilly HS Science National
Honors Society will be hosting a STEM Expo for elementary school students on
April 11th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. It is a really good interactive and hands-on
opportunity for Poplar Tree students to explore science
outside the classroom environment while having lots of fun doing it!
Mark your calendars now for the 13th annual FCPS Special Education
Conference, which will be held on Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
Hayfield SS. Please visit the Special
Education Conference website for more information and to register
for workshop sessions.
