A Request from 2nd Grade

tp rolls

The second grade team is in need of empty toilet paper rolls (or paper towel rolls) for an upcoming distance learning event that focuses on Native Americans.  They will be using the rolls to create their own Hopi Kachina Hand puppets during this live interactive lesson! If you can support this effort, student may drop off roll outside Mrs. Moore's classroom (room 282).  Thanks in advance!

From Our Public Health Nurse

Please be aware that we are in the midst of flu season and with the changing weather patterns, we are seeing an increase in cases of flu-like symptoms and GI illness across the country.

The best preventative measures are frequent hand washing with soap and water and covering coughs. If your child is out sick, please inform the attendance line of the reason for the absence and diagnosis or symptoms of illness. Please also keep your child home for 24 hours after the symptoms subside in order to prevent other students from becoming ill. We monitor for communicable disease every day and provide extensive cleaning throughout the school to minimize outbreaks. If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me at 571-722-5780, mary.shea@fairfaxcounty.gov.

Thank you,
Mary Joan Shea RN, BSN

The Hunters Woods PTA is excited to welcome the Children’s Science Center to our school to bring you Family Science Night!  Family Science Night is an event that offers 12 self-guided STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities that promote family learning experiences through hands-on science fun.

The Children’s Science Center’s mission includes instilling a love of learning STEM in all children by providing unique opportunities to explore, create, and be inspired.  Unfortunately, many children lose interest in STEM early on.  Family Science Night is an opportunity to foster interest and excitement in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math for our future scientists and innovators.

Please consider volunteering to guide students through one of the many exciting activities. www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0D49A9AD29A3F49-family1 . Volunteers are needed from 5:30 to 9:00 PM

Please join us for what is sure to be a fun, educational and adventurous night of STEM activities!
