Jump For Heart Logo

We have kicked off Jump Rope For Heart on Tuesday, January 30th and our celebration will be during PE classes February 12th-16th.  Jump Rope For Heart is a great way to educate students on the importance of heart health, and giving back to help others with special hearts.  You can join the team by following the steps below, thank you in advance for your support:

1. Go to http://www2.heart.org/goto/stenwoodes and click sign up or follow instructions below
 
2. Go to heart.org/jump and search for Stenwood Elementary

3. Select our school and join team.

4. Follow the remaining steps

Be sure to check out some of the new items in your HeadQuarters - we don't want you to miss out on sending Ecards and Emails and check out your My Virtual World where you can unlock cool games and earn points. These are new and fun ways to challenge yourself and others to be heart healthy and ask friends and family for a donation to save lives.

This year, all of your monsters will come to life! Make sure to take a few seconds to download the FREE Mobile app for iPhone or Android by searching for Jump/Hoops and see your monsters come to life, take selfies with your monsters and fundraise on the go.

Dear Stenwood Parents/Guardians of Rising 7th graders.

There are important dates and activities that were shared by Kilmer Middle School and Thoreau Middle School we would like you to be aware of. Please look below for details, make note of these important activities, important dates, and stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Kilmer School Counselors will visit Stenwood Elementary School on February 2nd at 1:00pm.

Thoreau School counselors will visit Stenwood Elementary School on February 13th at 10:20am.

 

KILMER MIDDLE SCHOOL:
 
Kilmer Middle School Rising 7th grade Curriculum Night for Parents & Students – Thursday, February 8, 6:00-7:30 pm (snow date: Feb 13)

Early sessions scheduled from 5:15 – 5:45 to include information about the Advanced Academic Level IV Program & ESOL Services

This evening provides an opportunity for parents and students to learn about required and elective courses and activities at Kilmer Middle School. Kilmer staff and students will be available to answer questions about curriculum and the transition to middle school. The 2018-2019 online course catalog will be available on the Kilmer website after the winter break.

Kilmer School Counselors will visit Marshall Pyramid Elementary Schools (including Wolftrap) – January 31 – February 8

Kilmer Middle school counselors will visit each elementary school to meet with sixth grade students attending Kilmer for the 2018-2019 school year to discuss course selections for middle school. Kilmer school counselors and elementary school counselors will work together to coordinate this date.


THOREAU MIDDLE SCHOOL:

Please see the 7th grade Rising Thoreau Middle School flyer that has details of all the Rising 7th grade activities by Thoreau Middle School that will be in your student’s backpacks sometime this week. Important Dates to look out for (also in Flyer):

Thoreau Middle School Counselors will visit Marshall Pyramid Elementary February 12th - February 23rd   Thoreau School counselors will visit Stenwood one day during this allotted time range.  

Rising 7th Grade Curriculum Night & Elective Open House- Thursday, February 15, 2018, 6:00PM-8:00 PM  (*Snow date is February 22, 2018)

Thoreau MS Rising 7th Grade Activity Fair - Tuesday April 24th 2018

Rising 7th Grade Meet & Greet Sessions- These sessions are held as an additional opportunity for rising 7th grade parents, to meet Principal Azimi and ask questions in a smaller and more informal setting. Dates and Times for the Meet and Greets are:

• Tuesday February 27, 2018, 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM

• Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM

• Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM

Excellence in Action (EIA) Summer Program- This fee-based program for Rising 7th graders, is designed to provide students with essential background knowledge and skills to support them in successful transition to middle school.  Two sessions are offered- families should select one to attend in July/August 2018.


• July 16, 2018-July 20, 2018   9:00 AM-12:00 PM

• July 30, 2018- August 3, 2018 9:00 AM-12:00 PM

Registration forms will be available on the Thoreau Middle School website by the end of January 2018.

New Student Orientation- Thursday August 23, 2018, 9:00 AM-11:30 AM
This event is offered to ALL incoming 7th grade students and new 8th grade students, new to TMS. Students will receive their class schedule, visit classes, and meet teachers, counselors, and administrators. A detailed flyer will be sent home in a TMS Back to School Packet.

Open House- Thursday August 23, 2018 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM. This is an informal drop in event for all Thoreau MS Students and Parents. Students will turn in their required forms to receive locker combinations, make purchases, set up lockers, show their parents around the building etc. A detailed flyer will be sent home in a TMS Back to School Packet.


Summer Learning Programs Registration Opens February 5, 2018

Enrichment institutes and camps focus on specific areas such as fine and performing arts, technology, study skills, science, and world languages.  FCPS and non-FCPS students are welcome.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Camp, Tech Adventure Camp (TAC), Institute for the Arts (IFTA), and the Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA) classes will be held at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Programs run between June 25 and July 27, 2018. Bus transportation is provided from select high schools and middle schools outside of the Lake Braddock pyramid. Transportation to and from the selected high schools is the responsibility of the parent/guardian or student.  Grade level eligibility for each program refers to the current 2017-18 school year. Please visit the Summer Learning Programs page for more information.

ACE enrichment classes stimulate students’ curiosity and provide creative learning experiences in the areas of culinary arts, leadership, test preparation, technology, study skills, ESOL, and world language exploration. Click on ACE enrichment classes for additional information.
