Second quarter ends on January 25th with a 2 hour early closing. Students are released at 12:15 pm. The 26th and 29th of January are student holidays. The third quarter begins on January 30th. It will be an even day. Students will begin the day in Alpha rooms to get their new schedules. Report cards will be distributed during HawkTime on the 7th of February.
Students will be competing in class Geography Bees in History and Civics Classes. Class winners will compete in the finals on January 31st after school.
Our school is participating in Learning Ally’s national reading recognition program, designed to encourage students to read and learn through the use of online audiobooks. The reading games involve an opportunity to win prizes and recognition for our school and students. From January 8-February 23rd, select HMS students will be encouraged to read from Learning Ally’s library of more than 80,000 audio textbooks, popular class reads, literature, and series best-sellers. At the end of the contest, there will be a celebration for participants with prizes for top readers.

- Student prize packs
- News story on our school
Let’s encourage our HMS readers throughout their participation in the Great Reading Games and read along with them! The Herndon Rotary invites our Herndon Middle School students to submit a short essay for the 2018 Student Essay Contest. The essay theme is "The 4 Way Test". Essays are due by 2/12/18 and prizes are awarded to the top three. For more information, be sure to check out the HMS website!
