"Plan D Nova" Website Provides Depression Resources for Northern Virginia Youth

Thanks to Woodson Senior and Girl Scout Emma Brahmey, Northern Virginia teens have a new online resource developed specifically for teens who suffer from depression: PlanDNova.org. In Braddock Supervisor Cook's December 2017 newsletter, Cook named Emma "Citizen of the Month" for her work stating that "Brahmey was inspired to start this website as part of her 'Gold Award' project after serving as the only youth representative on the County’s work group that created the 'Children's Behavioral Health System of Care Blueprint.' Brahmey’s work will surely help improve the lives of local teens and their families.” Click here for Supervisor Cook's full commendation (See Page 5).

Student-Authored and Student-Led -- Loyal Heart: The Musical

Woodson senior Paul Hardin has spent the last three years writing and composing a two-act musical about the early reign of King Henry VIII entitled Loyal Heart and has enlisted 40 Woodson students in drama, chorus, orchestra, and band to volunteer their time to make Loyal Heart come to life on February 16 and 17, 2018. As a completely student-led production, Loyal Heart gives all participating students a chance to have leadership roles in such areas as music direction, set design and choreography. Loyal Heart is giving the complete cast and crew the opportunity to create something new that has never been done before.

Woodson HS has agreed to produce the musical in the auditorium for two performances on February 16 and 17, 2018, and the Woodson PTSO has awarded a grant to fund the copying costs of the libretto and musical score. However, the project needs additional financial support to provide the costumes and scenery. Would you please consider donating in support of the dedicated students working on Loyal Heart?

Click here for information on how to donate.

Feel free to email pamhardin@verizon.net with any questions or visit the Facebook page @ loyalhearthemusical for more information about this amazing project.

Woodson Ice Hockey Interest Club Updates

Thank you to our sponsor Mr. Farzan for having a great game of hockey Jeopardy. Team “Moves like Jagr” won! Way to go Danny Morgan, Aimee Buchanan and Georgia Kokkinis! Though Woodson came out strong, the team was stymied in its effort against WestPo. Our goalie, Nik Filip was stellar for us and were it not for him the goals against us might have been much higher. Strong defensive play was displayed by Luke Hartley as he battled behind the net and in the corners, and Brian Lee raced up the ice with the puck and took a blistering shot on net. Woodson lost 4-1 with the lone goal coming from Alex Kokkinis and assisted by Alex Buchanan.
