Important Attendance Reminders for Next Week

For the upcoming holiday, if you know in advance your student will be absent, please send in a note, or call the attendance line as soon as possible, so that your student's absence will be recorded ahead of time. If your student's absence is for more than two days, a note is required for a pre-arranged excused absence. If in doubt, send a note!
Due to the volume of expected attendance calls on the early release day, Wednesday, November 22nd, you may receive an attendance call in the morning, even if you have reported your student's absence. Please do not call the school again that morning. We will be working diligently to input the information in our student database.
The attendance line is 703-988-8181 or 703-988-8100 opt. 1. A note is required for early dismissal from school. Send the note with your student to bring to the main office to receive an excused pass to leave class early that day. If you must pick your student up from school in an emergency, call the main office at 703-988-8100 opt. 0 to notify the attendance assistant ahead of time.

Executive Functioning

Liberty’s executive function skill of the month will be organization. The question of the month will be “Do you have what you need?” We often think of things being organized or not organized. However, we do not talk much about the different ways to be organized. Our outcome is to have students develop an awareness of their organization style. Please speak with your student about organization skills that they use in school and at home.

November’s Character Education Trait:  Caring and Compassion

Respect, as demonstrated through respect for self and respect for others, is the character trait that we are teaching our students throughout the school year at Liberty Middle School. Each month an additional character trait or pair of character traits is spotlighted on the morning news, through activities in the building, on posters in the classrooms and hallways, and during character building lessons taught in Lion Time classes. The character trait for November is Caring and Compassion. Caring and Compassion is having empathy for the suffering or misfortune of others and showing a willingness to lend a helping hand. One of the opportunities that students will have this month to demonstrate Caring and Compassion is by bringing a can of food for the community food bank.
