Parent Survey

Please click this link to complete a brief survey. The survey includes 8 short questions that will help the Student Services Department meet the needs of students throughout the year. We appreciate your support!

Executive Functioning

Liberty’s executive function skill of the month will be organization. The question of the month will be “Do you have what you need?” We often think of things being organized or not organized. However, we do not talk much about the different ways to be organized. Our outcome is to have students develop an awareness of their organization style. Please speak with your student about organization skills that they use in school and at home.

November’s Character Education Trait:  Caring and Compassion

Respect, as demonstrated through respect for self and respect for others, is the character trait that we are teaching our students throughout the school year at Liberty Middle School. Each month an additional character trait or pair of character traits is spotlighted on the morning news, through activities in the building, on posters in the classrooms and hallways, and during character building lessons taught in Lion Time classes. The character trait for November is Caring and Compassion. Caring and Compassion is having empathy for the suffering or misfortune of others and showing a willingness to lend a helping hand. One of the opportunities that students will have this month to demonstrate Caring and Compassion is by bringing a can of food for the community food bank.

Withdrawing your student from Liberty

Please be aware that if you are moving, you must contact the school at least one week in advance of your student’s last day.  There is a withdrawal process that student’s must complete before their last day at Liberty.  We need to have the following information, in writing:  Student’s last day at Liberty, new address or city/state where you will be moving, and the name of the student’s new school.  Please forward the information to Jenni Carnahan at jscarnahan@fcps.edu.

Fairfax Youth Survey for 8th Grade Students

All 8th grade students are scheduled to take the Fairfax Youth Survey on November 16 and 17 during their English 8 classes. Letters have been mailed home with information about the survey and information for parents who choose to opt out their students from participating in the survey.

The survey is both voluntary and anonymous. Students’ names are not used at any time during the survey. The purpose of the survey is to  provide a snapshot of the county's youth and to serve as a barometer of the community's effectiveness in fostering healthy choices in young people. The Youth Survey is a collaboration of the Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools. To see the results from last year’s survey or to learn more about the Youth Survey, please visit this webpage  https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/demogrph/youthpdf.htm

Please contact Liberty’s survey administrator, Assistant Principal Natalie Lissy, if you have additional questions about the survey.

From the PTA

PTA membership envelopes were distributed to students during Lion Time last week.  The PTA is sponsoring a membership drive competition in an effort to boost numbers and fundraising.  The 7th and 8th Grade Lion Time classes with the highest number of PTA parent members will earn a pizza party in November.  If you are already a member, just return the envelope blank - we will ensure your student's/students' class(es) gets credit for you.  The cost to join is $15 per member.  If you are not sure if you joined yet please reach out to PTA president, Sean Foster, at sean.david.foster@gmail.com.  Remember - membership in the PTA does not obligate your time, but it does help us support much needed programs and activities.
