Dear Sandburg Panther Families,

 

We are ending another awesome week of teaching and learning at Sandburg MS. Teachers are designing and facilitating meaningful lessons, while our students are actively engaged in the classrooms. News from Student Services ~

Counselors will be in classrooms on September 19 and 21 to give training lessons on Sexual Harassment and Bullying Prevention.

Depression Screening:

The Carl Sandburg Middle School Student Services will be conducting the Wellness Screening-SOS Program for all 7th grade students on Tuesday, October 3rd through 2nd period. Please see the link below for more information. A hard copy was sent home with your child on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Parents interested in previewing the Time to ACT video and taking a look at the Wellness Screening can do so at 5:15pm Wednesday, September 27th  in the auditorium at Carl Sandburg MS, before Back to School Night. Please  contact  your  students  school  counselor  if  you  have  any  further  questions  or concerns regarding this.

Credit Exam for World Languages  
The 2017 Credit Exam for World Languages will be administered at Sandburg Middle School at 2:30pm on November 15, 2017. This exam is designed to assess students’ first language proficiency and enable them to earn credits toward fulfilling the world languages requirement for the advanced studies diploma.

The credit exam is intended for students in grades 7 through 12. The exam gives students the opportunity to earn one or two credits in their first language that count towards the world languages requirement for the advanced studies diploma. Passing this exam will also award students with the Biliteracy Seal upon graduation.

The exam is available in 26 languages: American Sign Language, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali/Bangla, Chinese/Mandarin, Farsi/Persian, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Nepali, Pashto, Punjabi, Russian, Sanskrit/Samskritam, Spanish, Somali, Tagalog/Pilipino, Tamil, Telugu, Tigrinia, Twi, Urdu, and Vietnamese.

Students may register for the exam by contacting their school counselor. Registration closes at 4pm on October 11, 2017. There will be no late registrations.  (Attached flyer)

Schedules:

Parents, please check your student’s schedule carefully to ensure that they are in the correct level of core classes. Please keep in mind that there are different levels of classes at Sandburg to include teamed classes, general education, honors, and AAP. If you find an error, please contact your student’s counselor immediately.

PROGRAMMING 

The first PTA meetings is Tuesday, September 19 at 7pm at Sandburg.  

Mr. Cleckley (After School Specialist) will be our guest speaker.  He will highlight the after-school program, logistics of arrival and dismissal, and the process used to add new clubs/activities to Sandburg’s offerings.

MEMBERSHIP

You can still join the PTA ($20 dues per family); we will have forms at our first PTA meeting (September 19) and at Back to School Night (September 27).

Welcome to Moe’s....and Sandburg's first Restaurant Night on Wednesday, September 20.  For this fundraising event, Moe's will donate 40% back to Sandburg so go mucho mucho hungry.  Please remember, the PTA only gets credit for the customers who print and bring the attached flyer in (or display it on their phone).
