Reminder
September 22nd, Friday is a Student Holiday

Dear Stenwood Families and Stenwood Staff,

Just a reminder—

We hope to see you at tomorrow night’s Back to School Night which is from 6:30pm-7:45pm.  Come hear from your child’s teacher and learn about the grade level curriculum, expectations, and processes/procedures.  We prefer, if possible, that adults only attend this evening.  Please report directly to your child’s classroom.  The evening will begin with a close-circuit broadcast and will be followed by a 30 minute teacher presentation, a 5 minute transition, and then teachers will offer a second repeat 30 minute presentation.

Another reminder—

We shared with you previously about our new Visitor Management System (VMS) that was recently installed in our main office.  The new system requires a valid driver’s license (or valid DMV identification card, military ID, or passport) for first time registration and subsequent check-ins.  In other words, we will no longer be using a paper sign-in/check-out process for when you visit the school (for lunch, a conference, to volunteer, field trips, etc.) and you will always need to bring one of the forms of identification listed above.  The exception will be when we have a large gathering, and then we may resort to the paper process in order to expedite the group getting to their destination.

Here’s a few tips about the new system:

  • Visitors entering an FCPS school for the first time must register at the station using one of the identification items listed above.  Though you may have registered at one of our feeder schools, you still have to register at Stenwood
  • First time registration applies to all visitors, volunteers, and parents
  • Registration, at the visitor station, is a one-time procedure
  • Visitors scan their license at the system terminal
  • The visitor management system captures information from the visitor’s driver’s license
  • Visitors have a photograph taken at the station where the photo is stored and used for future visits to print an ID badge
  • Once the registration process is completed, the visitor is prompted to proceed to check in
  • If a visitor does not possess a valid driver’s license during the first time registration, office staff must manually register, check-in, and issue the visitor a badge.  Upon their next visit, the visitor must provide a valid ID to update the registration and ensure a streamlined check-in process in the future
  • Visitor check in on subsequent visits (after registration is completed), simply involves scanning the ID, specifying the person and reason for the visit and any other required fields, click the button, wear the photo ID that it produces, and proceed to your destination

Sincerely,

Principal Dammeyer

Kiss & Ride…Let’s get off to a great start by remembering:

  • Kiss & Ride is offered as a courtesy and managed by our own wonderful staff members—offer a warm smile of thanks to them.
  • Ideally, the same mode of transportation is most comforting to children—bus riders take the bus; walkers walk; leaving the occasional need for kiss & ride.
  • Our Kiss & Ride area is located on Citadel Place behind the school; the front bus circular drive and parking lot is not a designated Kiss & Ride area.
  • Please follow the traffic pattern on the map (copied below) provided in the Parent Handbook. This allows for the most efficient flow of traffic.  Cars that elect to not follow this pattern cause congestion and demonstrate disrespect for those who are abiding by the mapped-out route.
Stenwood ES Kiss & Ride Mao
  • Load and unload from the passenger side of the car only.
  • Do not pass other cars that are loading or unloading.
  • Be considerate to neighbors who live in our Kiss & Ride area; stay in your car and patiently follow the traffic flow.

 Thank you for your consideration!

Dreambox is still being updated for this year so last year's accounts will not work right now. They're updating the system, and it'll be back online in the next couple of weeks. Once it is back up and running we will send out communication with the new login information.
