Second Annual Gator Swamp Romp to be held Friday, May 12

Get ready to get down! Our 4-6 classes would like to invite parents to view our new moves at Kings Glen Elementary School on Friday, May 12 to join us for a celebration of the completion of our dance unit. This year each grade level will demonstrate a number of dances from many cultures (multi-cultural dress is encouraged). Parents are invited to attend and participate in all of the fun! For the classroom schedule check our Kings Glen website.  We hope you can romp on down to Kings Glen, it should be a swamp stompin’ good time!

Bike to School Day is Wednesday, May 10

The Annual Bike to School Day will take place on Wednesday, May 10 before and after school. We will have a meet up at the corner of Clydesdale and South Hampton at 8:10 AM. After we meet up, we will ride down the hill to the school and pool bike racks. We will lock our bikes (you should bring your own lock) to ensure their safety during the day. In the afternoon, the bikers will be dismissed with Walkers and Kiss and Ride. Please ensure that students are ready to go at dismissal with their helmet on to avoid traffic delays.  If you are interested in additional information about bicycle safety (how to lock a bike properly, routes, or how to check your bike), there are a number of tutorials on Physical Education 24/7 site under Course Materials to assist you with preparation for the big day. Hope to see you there!

FCPS Continuum of AAP Services

Fairfax County Public School offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in grades K-8.  Learning experiences are designed to develop high-level thinking through enrichment, acceleration, and extensions of the Program of Studies.  Teachers, administrators, and the advanced academic resource teachers work together to provide various levels of school based services in each elementary school.

Screening for school-based services can happen at any time during the school year but is done schoolwide in spring to determine services for the next school year.  Parents or guardians may initiate the screening for school-based services by submitting the AAP School-Based Services (Level II-III) Referral Form to the Kings Glen Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Mrs. Agner, by Thursday, May 25th .  Multiple criteria are used to screen students for all levels of AAP services including: parent information, CogAt and NNAT scores, SOL scores, work samples, as well as teacher input. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Agner by email  caagner@fcps.edu  or  call 703-239-4000.
