Dear Stenwood Families,

We want to be sure that you marked your calendar for April 27th for our annual Curriculum Night when the entire Stenwood staff will be here to greet you.  A flyer announcing more details will be in next week’s Hive Happenings.   Also, thinking ahead to other dates to ensure you have marked on your calendar…please make note of May 2nd from 7:45-8:30 when we will host our annual Volunteer Breakfast.  We hope that if you have served our school in any capacity this year (for example chaperoned a field trip, volunteered in the classroom, served on the PTA, cut out letters for a bulletin board for a teacher, served as a room parent, contributed to the grade level sponsored lunches, etc.), then you will plan on stopping by to join us for some coffee and a bagel or donut.  We are so fortunate to have such amazing volunteers.  In lieu of sending out separate invitations, as has been done in the past, we have decided instead to extend this invitation to our entire community, so as to be sure not to miss anyone who has contributed in a volunteer fashion to our school. Therefore, we do ask that you RSVP by calling the school office by close of business on April 7th.  Because the event is happening prior to the start of school, please know that you are welcome to feed your children breakfast at home and bring them with you, as they will be in the story pit in the library enjoying a movie, while you enjoy visiting with our staff.  Thank you.

Lastly, calling all rising kindergarteners!   Please encourage any neighbors with rising kindergarteners to contact Liz Wallen in the main office so that they can register their child for next school year.  Our kindergarten orientation (for both parents and kinders) is April 17th at 9:00-10:00; we want children to be registered well in advance of the orientation.  The number of children we have enrolled impacts the number of teaching staff for which we qualify for kindergarten.  Thank you for your assistance.

Speaking of enrollment and how it impacts staffing…thanks to those who have already returned their Student Intention Form ensuring that the office is aware of your plans for next school year.  If you have not done so, please either dig the form out of your child’s backpack or simply send an email to Liz Wallen at ekwallen@fcps.edu.  Knowing your plans for returning to Stenwood helps us solidify our numbers and plays a major role in the number of teachers assigned to our school.  We recognize that some parents of rising third graders are still awaiting eligibility decisions from the AAP Office and therefore are unable to respond to this request at this time.  Thank you.

If your child is definitely returning to Stenwood next school year or if there is a possibility of such, we offer you the opportunity to share any comments with me regarding class placement.  Please see the message below:

Though every classroom is full of fun learning and is busy with the business of each day, at the same time, we are beginning to think and plan for next school year.  The grade level teams, in conjunction with our specialists, Mrs. Powers, Mrs. Riley, and I will be working on tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in late August.  As we make these placements we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships.  Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests.  Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the reassignment of some teachers to a different grade level and the hiring of new teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.

If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please send a letter or email addressed to Peggy Dammeyer.  If sending via email, it would be most helpful if you included the name of your child/children and respective current grade levels within the subject line of the email.  The letter must be in the office by Thursday, April 20th for it to be taken into consideration.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
Principal Dammeyer
