February 7, 2017
Career Day was in full force last week at Terraset as you can see from this firefighter, President of the United States, mail carrier, astronaut, Harry Potter, martial artist.
Message from Ms. Trout
We can’t believe the 2nd quarter is over! We are
looking forward to the second half of the year and the exciting learning
adventures that will take place. Our students continue to work on our FCPS Portrait
of a Graduate skills. Our tigers are communicators, collaborators, ethical and
global citizens, creative and critical thinkers, goal directed and resilient
individuals.
This is a busy month. Please continue to check the Terraset
webpage for the most updated schedule of upcoming events and closings. This
week (February 6-10) is National School Counselors week. Please join us
in showing your appreciation for Mrs. Palatucci. Mrs. Palatucci works hard with
every one of our Tigers to make sure they are academically and
socially/emotionally supported. You can often find Mrs. Palatucci at Kiss and
Ride in the mornings greeting every car with a warm smile. Make sure you
write Mrs. Palatucci a note or an email letting her know how appreciated she
is!
We had a wonderful Career Day! Please check out our Facebook
and Twitter feeds for some great pictures from the day. A special thank you to
all the parent volunteers who came and shared their career experiences with our students.
Our students' excitement grew about college and their future professions.
Another shout out to our students who participated in South Lakes High School
Broadway Night. We have some very talented Tigers!
We look forward to seeing everyone at our PTA BINGO night on
February 24th at 6 pm.
Kindly,
Lindsay Trout, Principal
Fun question to ask your child at the end of the day: "What made you laugh at school today?"

Meet Mr. Smillie
I
am thankful to be working with the second grade team at Terraset Elementary
School. I have most recently supported students as an Instructional Assistant in FCPS at Kent
Gardens Elementary School for 3 years. I earned a bachelor's degree in
Psychology from James Madison University and am working on my master’s degree
in Special Education at George Mason University. I also have experience working
with children through soccer and snowboard lessons.
When I’m not at Terraset,
I enjoy snowboarding, playing the guitar, exploring the outdoors, and spending
time with my family and friends. My goal for this year is to grow as much as I
can as a teacher, and do my best to help our students progress and have a
successful year in second grade!

 Kindergarten 2017-18 School Year
A child may enter kindergarten if he or she turns five on or before September 30 of the year he or she enters school (2017). A child who will be six years old on or before September 30 must attend school. However, a qualifying parent may elect to provide home instruction for his or her school-age child in lieu of school attendance. More information is available by calling 571-423-4460.
All kindergarten programs in FCPS are full-day and are housed in our elementary schools. Terraset’s Kindergarten Orientation will be April 17, 2017 at 2:00 pm.

 Outdoor Learning
Our fourth graders are learning about hydroponic gardening (growing seedlings in water without soil). Students test the pH levels daily to ensure a balanced pH. When they learned that there was too much alkaline in the water, they leveled the pH by putting grapefruit from the cafeteria into the water to add acidity! Brilliant!
