Performances from the Band and Rockin’ Ropers

Recycling Volunteers in the Cafeteria

Olde Creek students and staff are working hard to make a difference and increase the amount of waste that we recycle.  We are focusing on becoming experts at recycling in the lunch room during the month of February.  The third through sixth graders are off to a good start.  We are looking for parent volunteers to assist the kindergarten, first and second grade classes sort their recyclables from their trash.  If you are available mid-day, please sign up to help out for a half hour shift from 11:00 - 11:30 for as many times as you would like during February. Please feel free to sign-up using the link below.

Battle of the Buildings – Spring 2017

Olde Creek ES is competing in the FCPS Battle of the Buildings, a district-wide energy conservation battle to see which school can save the most energy.  Between February 1 and April 30, we will be focusing on saving energy at school by doing simple things like unplugging devices and turning off lights when leaving the classroom.  You can see our school’s energy data at http://get2green.fcps.edu and follow the action with the Twitter hashtag #FCPSEnergyBattle.

  • Keep the energy saving efforts going at home by following our top 5 tips:
  • Turn off the lights when you are not in the room
  • Unplug appliances when not in use
  • Unplug phone chargers when not in use
  • Shut down game systems completely when not playing them.
  • Use LED bulbs in your lights/lamps

Preparing Students for the Transition to Secondary MathematicsFebruary 9 at 6 PM in the Frost cafeteria

Parents of students in grades 6-7 are invited to attend this presentation with David Van Vleet, middle school math specialist, and Jennifer Allard, high school math specialist.  There will be a discussion about mindset, productive struggle, and a student’s algebra readiness.   They will also be presenting valuable information regarding the sequence of math courses in middle and high school, and will be able to answer specific questions regarding course selection for the 2017-2018 school year.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the course selection process.  All course selection sheets should be turned into your elementary school this month before the Frost deadline of March 3rd.
