Fire Alarm System Testing

We wanted to inform you that the fire alarm system at our school will be inspected and tested during the week of February 23.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Fairfax County Office of the Fire Marshal require Fairfax County Public Schools to test `our fire alarm system annually. This test is very extensive, as they must inspect and test each and every fire alarm device. This testing can only be performed when the building is unoccupied; therefore, the typical hours of testing are from approximately 10:00 P.M. until 5:00 A.M., Monday through Friday. System testing can range from 1 day to 5 days, depending on building size.

In an effort to minimize disruption to the community members that live in close proximity to the school, the testing of the audible portion (horns) of the system is performed at the end of the total system test (the last testing day). The approximate amount of time that the audible portion (horns) are activated is 15 minutes.
