Top Priorities for 2017
Superintendent Search and
the FY 2018 Budget
Happy New Year!
The School Board will be focusing much of its attention in the first half of this year on choosing another great superintendent to lead our school system and in fashioning the FY 2018 budget. I invite all of you to provide your input on these major decisions, whether through community meetings, surveys or simply by writing me to let me know your thoughts.
Superintendent Search
The Board has hired a search firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), to conduct a nationwide search to help us find a new superintendent, following Dr. Karen Garza’s departure. An important early step is to identify the characteristics we will be seeking in a superintendent, and we’d like to get your thoughts.
One opportunity to provide your ideas and feedback on the next superintendent is to attend the community forum:

While this location is the closest in our area, you may attend any of the Community Forums scheduled throughout the county on January 17 and 18. You can also provide input through an online Survey which closes January 23rd.
FY 2018 Budget
Interim Superintendent Dr. Steve Lockard released his proposed FY 2018 Budget during the January 12th School Board meeting. The $2.8 billion plan includes more investment into teacher compensation, a top priority of the School Board, as well as other critical needs.
