Join us on Wednesday, November 30th at 7:30pm in the Langley High School Auditorium for A Story of Addiction:  Chris Herren.  A former NBA star with the Boston Celtics, Chris shares his powerful insights, painful struggles, and daily commitment to living sober and overcoming a drug addiction that started with alcohol and marijuana in high school.  

His story of redemptive rise from the depths of addiction is captured in the book, Basketball Junkie, and the release of the ESPN Films documentary, Unguarded. Drug-free and alcohol-free since August 1, 2008 Chris founded The Herren Project as a direct response to the increasing number of young people across the United States who are experimenting, using, and suffering from addiction to drugs and alcohol or are at risk for such abuse. Community Services Board members will be on hand to discuss questions and concerns about addiction and mental illness. Giving Tuesday Gift Card Donations

Giving Tuesday is a global movement honoring the true spirit of the holiday season: Compassion. Your compassionate donation of gift cards helps MHS families who need assistance with food and clothing, particularly winter clothing. MHS Social Workers distribute your donations to needy families right here at McLean High School. Gift cards can be placed in the donation box in the the school's front office.  

Easier still, you can purchase gift cards online. Simply indicate "MHS Giving Tuesday" as the recipient.  Have your electronic gift card donation emailed to:  GivingTuesday@mcleanptsa.org

McLean HS Leadership’s “Week of Giving”

The McLean HS Leadership class is partnering with SHARE of McLean to host  a “Week of Giving” charity drive.  Students earn points towards the Highlander Class Cup competition for bringing in items. (They earn double points for items brought in for the “item of the day”.)  PLEASE consider donating what you can to make someone’s holiday a little brighter this year.  Items can be donated in 3rd period classes and the main office November 28-December 2.  Please email Ms. Barcus (tabarcus@fcps.edu) or Mr. Kidd (twkidd@fcps.edu) if you have any questions.

MHS Choral Dept. Annual Boars Head Feast – December 3 – Purchase your tickets today!

Join the award-winning McLean HS Choral Department in celebrating the holiday season with its Annual Boar's Head Feast--an evening of food, fun and song!  This year's feast will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 6pm at McLean High School, 1633 Davidson Road, McLean, Virginia.

The event proceeds go directly to the McLean HS Choral department to fund their activities and scholarships.

The Virginia PTA sponsors a Citizenship Essay Contest.  The theme: We the people...Why vote? 

This essay contest encourages students to express their views on citizenship or character. This year's theme is "We the people...why vote?"  The deadline is February 2017. 

The complete rules are HERE.  Essays from students in grades 9-12 must be a minimum of 750 words.  The first place prize is $250. 

Applications to participate in the essay contest can be found HERE.

Essays and completed applications must be postmarked by February 1, 2017 and mailed to:

Resources for parents of students with disabilities

The FCPS Parent Resource Center (PRC) helps parents of students with disabilities. It sponsors workshops, has a lending library, and has Parent Liaisons to help parents solve problems. The PRC provides services relating to twice exceptional students, special needs life planning, parent stress, postsecondary education, resource fairs for students, access to support groups for students and adults, and many more!

MHS PTSA Seeking 2017-2018 Treasurer

Ready for a meaningful role in the PTSA?  How about being the Treasurer for the 2016-2017 school year? Your help is needed to  develop and manage the PTSA budget, maintain accurate financial records of income and expenses, provide updates at PTSA meetings, makes disbursements and collect funds, and manage processes to retain our 501(c)(3) status through the VA PTA.  If interested, please contact Delia Swigart at treasurer@mcleanptsa.org.
