Correction: The 6th grade band and strings concert is December 8.
Fifth grade students used their knowledge
in social studies to showcase their self-created artifacts during Museum Day.
Students collaborated in groups to develop the theme, time period, and physical
descriptions of their civilizations. For example, Ms. Shannon’s class named
their culture Cloudlandia, a civilization that flourished off their
natural resources in a high mountainous region. Mr. Banks’ class developed a
culture based four million years ago that lived amongst dinosaurs. This unit of
study gave students the opportunity to become archeologists by analyzing their
classmates artifacts. The entire fifth grade class was excited throughout the
entire process, while placing them in a position to hone their critical
thinking and communication skills.
Join parents from the Oakton Pyramid to discuss digital citizen topics such as Digital Drama and Sexting. Some sessions will include student panels who will share their experiences with the topic and to answer parent questions. There will be two sessions with a choice of seven topics to choose from; more information about the sessions can be found on the flyer.
If you are interested in coming, please take a moment to fill out this parent interest form and share what school your child attends and the topic(s) in which you are interested so there will be enough resources for all.
Family Bingo was a big success! Many Mustangs came to
play Bingo on Friday night. There were terrific prizes for the winners and
great fun was had by all. The PTA raised over $500 in a great family night. Big
thanks to Mrs. Malone and Mrs. Volciak for organizing the event and to so many
teachers and staff who supported the event.
Congratulations to these 6th graders who spent 6-10 hours a week for over three months preparing for the LEGO League Robotics Competition. At the competition held last week, Team Mosby Bots received first place in two of the three categories in their division: Robotic Design Competition and Core Values. Great work, Mustangs!
We are excited to share the news of a $4,800 donation from Asha-Jyothi. Asha-Jyothi is a volunteer based non-profit
organization dedicated to serving the needs of children across the world.
We have parent volunteers that prepare backpacks with food for students
to take home over the weekend. This donation will help expand the number of
students receiving support and provide additional food items. We
appreciate their generosity and the impact their donation will have for our
students!
