Cardinal's Message 11/11

Cardinal's Message

Dear Families and Friends,

On this Veterans Day, we take a moment to give our sincerest appreciation to all veterans in the Cunningham Park family and beyond.  We know the sacrifices you and your families make to serve the country, and thank you for your commitment and work to ensure our freedom.

Another thank you goes out to all parents who came out for conferences earlier this week and, for some, the days before.  This is a wonderful time for teachers and parents to meet and get to know more about how to make sure our children achieve to their highest abilities.

Next Tuesday just prior to the PTA meeting, we will focus on an essential topic in today’s world: internet safety.  Sarah Olson, our School Based Technology Specialist, and Alicia Clark, Specialist from the FCPS Office of Safety and Security, will provide information and tools to help us keep our children safe when they venture online.

The meeting begins at 6:00, an hour earlier than the normal PTA meeting time, and will take place in the school cafeteria.  Spanish interpreters will be present as well.

Next week is also book fair week!  Our library, which is already a beautiful celebration of books, has been transformed into a haven for book collectors, old and young.  Come check out the wonderful offerings the fair brings with it this year.

And while you’re planning your week, be sure to pencil in Thursday’s annual Thanksgiving luncheon. You are cordially invited to join your child to celebrate giving thanks together with friends.  This is always a festive event and we love to see so many parents and grandparents join us!

The weekend looks to be filled with cool, crisp fall days.  We hope you enjoy, and look forward to seeing many of you next week!

Sincerely,

Katie Le, principal and Kat Ngo, assistant principal

Internet Safety Presentation

1

What issues do you find online, and how can we keep our children safe? What social media apps are currently trending? What does Cyberbullying look like and how can I prevent it? These questions are not uncommon for parents of 21st Century learners; it's good to stay educated about the technology our children use.

Join CPES' technology specialist, Sarah Olson, and Alicia Clark from FCPS Office of Safety for an evening of dialogue, as we discuss what it means to be a Digital Citizen, current trends, and how we can keep children safe in a digital world.

The presentation is Tuesday, November 15th at 6:00-7:00pm (just before the PTA meeting) in the school's library.

Family Life Education (FLE) Preview Event

Parents are invited to attend a morning opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons.  The meeting will be held on November 22nd at 8:00-8:30am in the school computer lab.  All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time.

Grade level-specific curriculum lessons are available for review online in FCPS 24-7 (Blackboard) Parent View.

More information was sent home in your child's Friday Folders.

School Picture Make-Up Day

Picture make-up is on Tuesday, November 15th.  If your child did not have a picture taken, please make sure you send a picture envelope in on that day.  Additional picture forms are available in the main office.  If you do not like the picture that was taken on regular picture day, please send the entire picture packet back and a new picture will be taken.

A Note from the PTA
