Dear Stenwood Families:

I had a wonderful time meeting with all of our new students in grades 1-6.  Our SCA officers and student ambassadors helped to plan and conduct this meeting.  During the meeting we orient the new students about Stenwood and share all of our fun activities.  This is a tradition I began several years ago, and I’ve received great feedback.  Students have shared that it helps them by allowing them to see that they really aren’t the only new student.  They have also stated that is it helpful to know about upcoming events.  And parents have expressed that their children come home after the meeting and share with them that it made them feel special.  I also learn a lot from our new students, as they have the opportunity to offer me advice on how I might help them as a new student to love Stenwood even more or to share one thing they really like about Stenwood.  Here’s a few of their responses:
“One thing I really like about Stenwood is the teachers!”
“I love math because we have fun homework.”
“I’d love Stenwood even more if there were two recess times.”
“I loved the ice cream social.”
“I love Mrs. Dammeyer’s birthday pencils!”
“I love recess and math and reading and PE and tests and music.”

FCPS has undergone an immunization audit, and it was found that some students are not in compliance in regards to their vaccinations.  Those families either have already received communication about this or will be notified by mid-November.  Mrs. Wallen is happy to answer any questions you might have should you receive one of these letters.

Last call…please help support our sister school, Graham Road Elementary through a donation drive for hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves (new, not used, please).  The drive will run from October 17th through October 28th.
