Students select free books at Stuart pyramid resource fair

School Resource Fairs are an Important Part of "Collect for Kids."

"This was the best ever!"

"Now I have my own things for school."

Just a few of the excited comments overheard at the resource fair held in mid-August at Lee High School.

An estimated 9,000 students and parents attended one of the four resource fairs held around FCPS in August. Each fair was open to all students in the pyramid, from kindergarten through 12th grade and represented months of planning and collaboration among school administrators, county staff, and community members.

School supplies, free dental screenings, haircuts, book giveaways, vision and hearing testing, finger-printing and representatives from over 50 FCPS offices, county programs, and other local groups eager to help with job training, language services, school lunch sign-up, or child care - the resource fairs are a true "one-stop" way to bring families, schools and communities together.

Join the Effort!

With over 53,000 students in FCPS identifying as living below the poverty line, it takes help from around the county to make sure their needs are met. The Foundation helps by raising funds for its "Kids in Need" fund. Your contribution helps all students in FCPS have the tools they need to be successful.

Perhaps you belong to a group that would like to participate in a fair next summer. Or maybe you want to take the lead in organizing one! We welcome all community members to help Collect for Kids.

Boeing Funds Stem Curriculum Enhancements

For the second year, Boeing has provided a $25,000 grant to the Foundation to support the expansion of STEM opportunities across the curriculum. Working through its partner, the Curiosity Machine, design challenges will be utilized in 65 elementary schools throughout FCPS to introduce students to various science and engineering concepts. Boeing's funding will also sponsor two middle school Family Science Night programs, and provide essential equipment at the newly established Global STEM Challenges program at Edison High School this fall.

Thank you to Boeing for its partnership with FCPS!

Foundation to Focus on Increasing STEM, including Cyber Education Courses

The Foundation board in September continued to commit its energy toward workforce development efforts within FCPS, including sponsoring the development of a coding curriculum for elementary students, and expanding Cyber IT courses into every high school in the county. Over the next three years, the Foundation will raise funds for teacher training, curriculum development and materials to further these innovations.
