Dear Stenwood Families:
Thanks for the positive feedback regarding our newsletter. Thanks also for supporting our SCA’s food drive. We had over 1724 items donated and they will be given to Food for Others. Our students were very excited watching the pile of goods grow as families gave so generously. Thank you.
Our fifth and sixth graders had a wonderful Battle of the Books this past Friday. I am proud of our students’ initiative to read and become experts regarding so many novels. They also exhibited excellent team work. Congratulations to Mrs. Shepherd’s class in bringing home the coveted Stennie trophy.
We could use your help. If you’ve inadvertently slipped into the habit of running late in the mornings, please resolve to make an adjustment to rectify that situation. Teachers begin the instructional day at 8:30, as soon as the first student enters the room. The first bell rings at 8:30, and all students are expected to be within their classrooms by 8:40 when the second bell rings. Students who arrive to their classrooms after 8:40 are marked tardy. Thank you for your assistance.
You can also assist us by reminding students about an upcoming fun event and helping them to dress accordingly. Tuesday, January 12th will be our Multicultural Day. We plan to recognize the awesome diversity that we have at Stenwood by inviting students to dress in a way that represents their cultural heritage. We are so fortunate at Stenwood because we have such diversity amongst our student body. This day will be a day of celebration, and we plan to build further upon this celebration at our whole-school assembly scheduled for January 28th.
Mark your calendars for our January 12th PTA meeting. I have invited Mariam Suqi from the Office of Student Safety and Wellness to come and give a presentation on internet safety. She will be meeting with our fifth and sixth graders during the day and teaching them about internet safety as well.
As winter break approaches, I want to wish you and your family a wonderful break. I hope you have a great time with family and friends. In an effort to support our students in receiving that same joyful time with family and friends, we are refraining from assigning homework over the break. Nor will we have any tests immediately upon return from break. It is our hope that this will allow everyone a true rest and the time to engage in family traditions. Enjoy and see you in the new year.
Sincerely,
Peggy
Dammeyer Principal
