Dear Stenwood Families:
Here’s the new Hive Happenings coming to you via FCPS’s new email communication system! Our participation in this pilot program was mentioned last week, and you received the PTA Wednesday Mail via this system. It also allows you, on the receiving side of these communications, to have some control over what you would like to read. Please be sure to add this address Stenwood ES <fcps@public.govdelivery.com to your contact list, otherwise it may end up in your spam folders. We will still use the Keep in Touch communication system for emergency and essential communications.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It evokes fond memories of family gatherings, delicious food (with the exception of my family’s tradition of sauerkraut on mashed potatoes!), continuous televised football games, and naps on the couch followed by a pick-up game of football in the backyard. It is a wonderful time to take stock and show gratitude to others for positively impacting our lives.
Students, I thank you for coming to school ready to learn each day and for filling our classrooms with joy. Parents, I thank you for attending your child’s parent-teacher conference recently and for partnering with our teaching staff to ensure the success of your child. And, of course, I cannot neglect to mention our staff—all of them…teachers, instructional assistants, custodians, itinerant staff, clerical staff, and our assistant principal. I am grateful for all members of the Stenwood team. They are so dedicated to ensuring both the academic and social/emotional well-being of our students. Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday and may your mashed potatoes be free of sauerkraut!

I’d also like to remind you about the opportunity to help rectify the school system’s budget by offering your ideas on how to balance the budget—be sure to visit the website at http://www.fcps.edu/news/fy2017.shtml. We are facing a significant budget shortfall for the school year 2016-17 (FY2017). The tool used to make monetary adjustments will remain active until late December. Thanks again for your advocacy. Superintendent Garza will use this information when she finalizes the proposed budget and presents to the School Board on January 7th.
A few reminders… SCA Food Drive—donations due December 11th Please follow us on twitter! Don’t have a twitter account? You can still follow Stenwood ES and receive our Tweets via text to your cell phone by sending a text to 40404 with the words “Follow @StenwoodES” (no quotes).
Sincerely,
Peggy Dammeyer Principal
