VDOE is Excited to Announce that the 2024-2025 VQB5 Quality Profiles are Now Live!
The VQB5 Quality Profile website includes quality information for over 3,200 publicly-funded sites, including child care centers, family day homes, Head Start, and public school preschools, as well as for privately-funded sites that have opted in to VQB5. Today's release also includes new VQB5 Honor Rolls for top performance and significant improvement during the 2024-2025 year.
The VQB5 Quality Profiles help recognize early childhood program accomplishments while also informing families about quality options across the Commonwealth. View Tips for Promoting VQB5 Quality Ratings.
The VDOE would like to recognize the enormous amount of coordination and work that has gone into this second annual release of VQB5 Quality Profiles. Flu Prevention
In Virginia, the flu season begins in October. The flu can cause mild to severe illness and can be very dangerous for young children. Handwashing and proper cleaning and disinfecting are key to keeping children safe. Child care providers and administrators can learn more about the flu on the Virginia Department of Health’s (VDH) flu webpage and get the latest information about flu prevention on the VDH’s webpage for preventing respiratory viruses.
Provider Training Registration for the Child Care Program Attendance and Schedule System (PASS) has Launched!
Registration for training on the new attendance tracking system opens today. Providers can register for live and recorded training sessions offered throughout November and December.
KinderSystems, the vendor behind PASS, is also currently contacting select providers to confirm their need for state-issued tablets. Please be prepared to receive a phone call if you did not complete the survey. KinderSystems may also reach out to providers if they have clarifying questions before mailing tablets.

Virginia Child Care Provider Scholarship Program: SPRING 2026 Applications Accepted October 15 – November 21, 2025
Students working toward a career studies certificate or an associate degree in early childhood development at Virginia’s Community Colleges and students enrolled in SCHEV-accredited Montessori Certification Programs may apply for SPRING 2026 scholarships through the Virginia Child Care Provider Scholarship Program. Applications will be accepted online October 15 – November 21, 2025. These VDOE scholarships support the cost of in-state tuition for up to two approved courses per semester.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
Early Childhood Provisional Licensure Grant – Applications Due October 15
The VDOE is pleased to announce the Early Childhood Provisionally Licensed Teacher Incentive Program. This program provides funding of no more than $30,000 each for school divisions to provide financial incentives to provisionally licensed teachers in preschool programs operated by the school division. Applications are due on October 15. Additional information and how to apply may be found in the Program Application and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
VPI Fall Verification- Now Open, Due November 7
Fall Verification, released via the Single Sign-On Web System (SSWS) in mid-October, contains all the necessary questions and information needed to report for Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) for the 2025-2026 school year. In order to support divisions, the VDOE hosted a technical webinar to review the VPI Fall Verification Report.

Join the First Early Childhood Special Education Office Hour: This Thursday! Indicator 6 and Early Childhood Placement
New this year! The VDOE will host ECSE Office Hours for ECSE administrators, special education directors or those who would like to increase knowledge and ask questions on content related to ECSE. Office Hours will be held the third Thursday of the month from 11 a.m.-12 noon. Each month, a specific topic will be discussed. There will be a short introduction of the topic followed by the opportunity for you to ask questions. Registration is not required. Join VDOE on October 16 to discuss Indicator 6: Early Childhood Placement.

Join the Office of Head Start’s National Center on Early Childhood Development Teaching, and Learning for Coach Camp, a dynamic virtual learning experience. Participants will explore innovative, data-informed approaches to strengthen education practices and coaching implementation across program options. These sessions will offer rich content, practical resources and expert guidance to empower education staff in supporting quality teaching and learning for children.
