Nominations are Open: RISE Awards for Classified Personnel Virginia school divisions are invited to nominate one classified employee for the 2026 RISE Award, which honors outstanding service to schools, students, and communities. STEM Fall Professional Learning Series The VDOE Office of STEM will host the second session of the fall professional learning series designed to support the implementation of the 2023 Mathematics SOL, the 2024 Computer Science SOL, and the 2018 Science SOL, utilizing an integrated instructional approach. The one-hour webinar will be held on September 24, at 4 p.m. The topic is Diving Deeper into the Standards and Instructional Resources. Registration is now open.
Planning for Text Dependent Questions Virtual Webinar The VDOE Office of English next professional development session, titled “Text Dependent Questions,” will be held on September 24. This virtual session will offer guidance and support in developing text-dependent questions aligned with the 2024 English SOL. It will emphasize integrating the communication and other strands to promote student engagement with the text and to make student learning visible in the classroom. Registration is required.
Innovative K–12 German Programs Award Application Due October 6 The Klett World Languages Award for Innovative K–12 German Programs, in partnership with the American Association of Teachers of German, recognizes U.S. schools and districts implementing creative and effective approaches to German language instruction. One selected school or district will receive a $1,000 grant to support program growth or sustainability, official recognition on the Klett World Languages and AATG websites, and a Certificate of Excellence. Apply by October 6.
VT Bi-Annual Educator Conference Virginia Tech’s Center for Transatlantic and European Studies is now accepting applications for this Conference, held November 7–9. Co-organized with the Bill of Rights Institute, the event, titled European Connections: The Interwoven Histories of European and American Governance, features interactive sessions where faculty and scholars will examine the evolving relationship between the U.S. and Europe from the founding era to today. Mastery Coaching for Learning 2025-26 Cohort Series Facilitated by master coaching practitioners, participants will engage in job-embedded use of coaching strategies at the building and/or central level. Student AI Bootcamp Richmond will host the Mark Cuban Foundation’s free, competitive AI Bootcamp, offering high school students hands-on experiences, mentorship from industry professionals, and exposure to real-world tech applications in a university setting. Mental Health Counseling or School Counseling Learn from dedicated, doctoral-level instructors who bring a wide range of counseling experience to their students. Choose from tracks in Mental Health Counseling or School Counseling with an opportunity to gain your LPC. The Longwood School Counseling track fulfills the VDOE licensure regulations for school counselors.
