United States Senate Youth Program for High School Juniors and Seniors The VDOE will select two student delegates to represent Virginia in the 64th Annual United States Senate Youth Program. Each delegate will receive a $10,000 scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the week of March 7-14, 2026. Interested students will complete an application and submit essay responses. Building administrators will be asked at a later time to certify the student’s application. The top candidates will be invited to interview with a panel of judges appointed by the VDOE and take the Public Affairs examination. Detailed information about the program, specific qualifications, and delegate expectations may be found on the VDOE USSYP website. VDOE strictly adheres to the USSYP program qualifications and expectations outlined by the Hearst Foundation. Applications are due by 5 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025 via the Online Student Application Portal.
STEM Professional Learning Series The Offices of STEM is pleased to announce a fall professional learning series designed to support the implementation of the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning, the 2024 Computer Science Standards of Learning, and the 2018 Science Standards of Learning, utilizing an integrated instructional approach. The first one-hour webinar will be held on September 10 at 4 p.m. The topic is Making the Most of Instruction Using an Integrated STEM Approach to Learning. Free Zearn Training for Virginia Teachers and Leaders ALL In Tutoring continues through 2025-2026, including the use of Zearn in mathematics. During the school year, all school divisions can receive live training from the Zearn team at no cost to support strong implementation and drive impact with students. All educators whose school divisions have opted into Zearn Math can access their on-demand Curriculum Study PD content at no cost, directly from their Zearn account. Virtual Virginia Online Professional Learning Opportunities VVA offers no cost online professional learning opportunities for all Virginia public school educators. All K–12 educators and administrators at Virginia public schools and divisions are invited to register for the 2025–2026 VVA Statewide Professional Learning Webinars, held on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. These webinars highlight innovative and creative technologies, instructional strategies, and resources for school divisions. FLAVA 2025–2026 Teacher Workshop Series Now Available The Foreign Language Association of Virginia (FLAVA) is offering a series of free, one-hour Zoom workshops for the 2025–2026 school year. These sessions are open to FLAVA members and members of sister organizations in SCOLT and NECTFL. Secondary French Teacher Professional Learning Opportunity The University of Virginia’s Department of French and the Center for the Liberal Arts will host a free professional development program for secondary French teachers titled “Freedom and Unfreedom” on September 27, from 10a.m.– 4p.m. at Shannon Library. Conducted primarily in French, the event will foster conversations around art, history, and culture in the global Francophone world. Active Learning Grant Pre-K Through Grade 2 RFP - Now Open The Active Learning Grant provides funding to school divisions to encourage and implement active learning for pre-kindergarten through Grade 2 students in various settings. Designed to support the integration of the 2023 Mathematics and 2024 English Standards of Learning, the grant can be used for high-quality resources, professional development, and educational platforms that combine academic content with physical activity. Its goal is to enhance student engagement and achievement in math and literacy while supporting physical and mental health. Application details are available on the VDOE Health Education Website.
Recognizing Leadership in Technology The VDOE Office of Innovation is working with VSTE to recognize and honor Virginia Educators, Technology Coaches and Leaders who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership in implementing technology to improve education. Nominations will be accepted using this form until September 21.
Administration and Supervision Program The Administration and Supervision program at the University of Virginia is currently accepting applications for those wishing to pursue an M.Ed. or endorsement in Administration and Supervision for Spring and Summer, 2026. Study and Apprenticeship Opportunities in Germany for U.S. High School Students The German Language Advisors in the USA, in partnership with ForumDeutsch, are offering a free three-part webinar series this fall for secondary students interested in studying or pursuing apprenticeships in Germany after graduation. Sessions will be held on Sept. 25, Sept. 29, and Oct. 11, and will cover admissions, student life, and paid training programs. Call for Proposals: 2025 Southern Regional Language Conference SCOLT, FLANC, SCFLTA, and SEALLT are partnering to host a joint regional language conference from March 19–21, in Raleigh, NC. Educators are invited to share their knowledge and best practices by submitting a session proposal aligned with the conference theme, Take Flight with Languages. Microgrants for World Language Educators The ACTFL/Vista Microgrant Program offers $300 awards to K–12 language educators in any instructional setting. Funds may be used for projects such as organizing cultural events or activities for learners, including collaborations with community organizations, and creating classroom projects. Applications for the current round are due November 12.
SURN Exploring Artificial Intelligence Conference The SURN Exploring Artificial Intelligence Conference will be held on November 17, at William & Mary’s School of Education. Designed for K–12 educators, the event features an interactive keynote by Dr. Trenton Ford and breakout sessions on practical classroom applications of AI. Maker Mindset Conference The University of Mary Washington College of Education is now accepting proposals for the 4th Maker Mindset Conference on February 7, 2026 at the Academy of Technology and Innovation. This year’s theme, “Beyond the Build: Empowering Creative Problem Solvers,” celebrates the power of maker education to spark innovation, agency, and purpose.
