Apply for Fall 2025 College Scholarships by July 25
Students taking early childhood development courses at Virginia’s Community Colleges and students enrolled in SCHEV-accredited Montessori Certification Programs may apply for FALL 2025 scholarships through the Virginia Child Care Provider Scholarship Program. Applications will be accepted online through July 25. These scholarships support the cost of in-state tuition for up to two approved courses per semester. More information can be found on the VDOE scholarship website.
Health Information Resources for Parents of Rising Kindergartners and Returning Students
The new school year will soon be starting, and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) wants to ensure families have resources to help their children make a successful transition. The VDH website offers helpful back-to-school checklists and resources for parents of Rising Kindergartners to remind them of physical exams and school-required immunizations. Please help us spread the word by sharing these valuable resources with the families you serve.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
VPI New Coordinator Webinar - July 31 at 11 a.m.
The VDOE will host a training for VPI Coordinators new to their position for the 2025-2026 school year. Reporting timelines and other annual requirements will be reviewed. This session will be recorded and sent to all registered participants as well as posted to the VPI website after completion. Registration is required.

Early Childhood Special Education
Fundamentals of Early Childhood Special Education Administration - Webinar Series
This three-part webinar series is intended for new ECSE administrators, new special education directors, or those who would like a refresh on topics related to ECSE administration. The series will provide an overview of Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education programs; VDOE guidance regarding inclusive practices; an overview of ECSE indicator data (indicators 6, 7, and 12); and Virginia Quality Birth through Five (VQB5). Participants are encouraged to attend each session.

As the weather changes, outdoor experiences become more important to help children learn how to appreciate their natural environment. Children’s positive experiences playing outdoors, offers many health benefits. When supporting our youngest learners, be intentional about exploration, ensure the environment is safe, and plan activities based on the weather. Take time to:
- Ask questions to guide exploration
- Encourage children to express their ideas in words and drawings
- Help make connections between actions and results
- Show enthusiasm
- Model curiosity
VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
VQB5 Data Verification- Now Open through July 25
Starting yesterday, July 14 through July 25, all sites that participated in VQB5 during the 2024-2025 year have the opportunity to preview their quality profiles in LinkB5 prior to results being posted publicly this fall. Data Verification provides sites with the final opportunity to verify information, review rating results, and request corrections. At the conclusion of the data verification process, VDOE will review changes to quality profiles as necessary before finalizing and sharing publicly in the fall of 2025.
Site administrators should review the information below to assist with data verification.
Webinar: Introduction to VQB5 for New Program Leaders - August 7 at 12 noon
On August 7, the VDOE will be hosting a webinar for site leaders and family day home providers who are new to VQB5. The webinar will provide an overview of the required VQB5 participation activities and will address frequently asked questions to help sites prepare for the upcoming VQB5 year. This webinar will be recorded.
