VDOE History and Social Science Instructional Guide PD for Teachers The VDOE HSS team will work with educators during the week of August 18 to explore the implementation of the 2023 History and Social Science Standards of Learning and new instructional guides. Sessions will be organized by course, and interested participants must register in advance. These sessions are designed to create a forum for collaboration and provide a scaffolded approach through the various stages of inquiry-based learning. Session topics include: -Virginia Studies, USI, USII: August 18 at 10:00 a.m. -C&E, Government: August 19 at 10:00 a.m. -K-3: August 20 at 9:00 a.m. -VUS: August 20 at 11:00 a.m. -WG, WHI, WHII: August 21 at 10:00 a.m.

Interested participants must register in advance for the sessions. Sessions for school division leaders will focus on inquiry-based learning practices, including active learning, scaffolding, effective questioning, reading for investigation and research, making predictions, analyzing information sources, writing for discussion and communication, and checking for understanding. Virginia Health and Physical Activity Institute -July 13-16 Register for the 2025 Health and Physical Activity Institute held July 13-16, at James Madison University. VDOE English Office Kicks Off a New Round of Professional Learning Starting July 30! As announced by VDOE, the English Program is offering professional learning to support the implementation of the 2024 English SOL. You must register in advance for the sessions specific to division leaders, building administrators, reading specialists, coaches, and classroom teachers. Topics include Foundational Skills, Planning for Integration, Text Dependent Questions, Purposeful Planning, and more.
VDOE Fine Arts Summer Professional Learning Webinar sessions provide relevant and accessible professional learning for Virginia’s Fine Arts educators related to implementation of the Fine Arts SOL and content of newly released Instructional Guides. Sessions are intended to support both new and returning fine arts educators and leaders in preparing for the 2025-2026 school year. Sessions will be offered live and will be recorded. Birthplace of County Music Museum Resources The Birthplace of Country Music Museum, affiliated with the Smithsonian, showcases the 1927 Bristol Sessions recordings, the impact of sound technology, and the ongoing legacy of this musical heritage through text, artifacts, theaters, and interactive displays.
