Join VDOE and its state-funded partners at the Content Teaching Academies on June 23-26. The Academies are designed to provide professional development to participating Virginia educators to enhance the outcomes of students with disabilities using high-quality instruction. For all public school participants, the VDOE will assume the cost of registration, meals, and double occupancy lodging on JMU’s campus. School divisions are encouraged to cover travel expenses for participants as this cost is not assumed by VDOE. Learn more or register today!

VDOE Office of English Professional Learning
Join the VDOE English Program for professional learning sessions designed to support the implementation of the 2024 English Standards of Learning. Advance registration is required for sessions tailored to division leaders, building administrators, reading specialists, coaches, and classroom teachers. Topics include Foundational Skills, Planning for Integration, Text-Dependent Questions, Purposeful Planning, and more. Details are available from VDOE.

Counselor Collaboration
Join Virginia School Counselor Association for a Counselor Collaboration Carnival on July 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Steward School in Richmond. Come share an idea, initiative, program, or intervention that you have seen have a positive impact on students with your fellow school counselors - with a ""carnival booth"" spin.  For more information and to register, visit the VSCA Counselor Collaboration Carnival.  

Save the Date: Second Annual Reading Revolution – October 13–17, 2025
Let’s bring history to life—one story at a time. In partnership with the VA250 Commission, VDOE invites you to take part in the 2nd Annual Reading Revolution—a weeklong celebration connecting elementary students with the community, museums, and libraries through reading. Held during Reading Revolution Week in October leading up to Yorktown Victory Day, volunteers are encouraged to read to students about the American Revolution, the Constitution, civic principles, and the people and events that shaped our democracy. Youth Mental Health First Aid Training for School Personnel
The VDOE Office of Behavioral Health and Student Safety is offering free Youth Mental Health First Aid training for school staff, sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension/Virginia Tech Opioid Abatement Authority Project Services (VCE-COPE). This virtual training follows a blended format: participants first complete a two-hour, self-paced online course, followed by a 4.5 to 5.5-hour instructor-led video session. Register by July 3. Recognizing Leadership in Technology
VDOE Office of Educational Technology and Classroom Innovation is working with VSTE to recognize and honor Virginia Educators, Technology Coaches and Leaders who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership in implementing technology to improve education. Nominations will be accepted from June 1 - September 21.     

Juneteenth Proclamation
Juneteenth is recognized as a federal and state holiday, and celebrations take place annually throughout the Commonwealth and the nation. See the Proclamation from Governor Youngkin. 

VCEE Summer Professional Development for Educators
The Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE) offers high-quality, standards-aligned workshops both in-person and online to support economics and personal finance instruction. Learn more or register for one of the upcoming opportunities:
-Personal Finance Bootcamps June 24 –Northern VA | June 26 – Southeast VA: One-day workshops with real-world applications.
-Online Economics Institute July 6 – August 17: Self-paced, 45-hour PD for high school teachers.
-Online Personal Finance Institute July 6 – August 17: Covers credit, insurance, taxes, and more. Certification eligible.
-Mini-Economy Institute July 29–30: Interactive Grades 3–8 workshop on classroom economies.
-Silk Roads and Sunken Cities: Economics in World History Institute August 5–6: Offered by VCU and GMU, this institute explores how economics shaped global history using inquiry-based lessons.

Free Professional Learning Opportunity for World Language Teachers
EdcampCIVA 2025, hosted by the Comprehensible Input Virginia Alliance, will take place on July 10, from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. This free, one-day professional learning event provides a collaborative environment for World Language educators to share ideas, examine acquisition-driven practices, and engage with current proficiency-based instructional approaches. The event is not language-specific and will focus on practices relevant to second language acquisition. Visit the website for more information and registration.  

2025-2026 Academy for New Directors of Special Education
VDOE invites all newly hired local Directors of Special Education to the 2025-2026 Academy. This yearlong professional development opportunity aims to support educators in their roles and responsibilities within their local school divisions and to enhance the outcomes of students with disabilities across the Commonwealth.  A new Director of Special Education is defined as an individual who is new to the position and has not been a special education director in another local school division or was new after last year’s Academy.  Applications are due by June 30. K-12 Leadership and AI Webinar
The University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development will be hosting a free webinar on K-12 Leadership and AI featuring Jose Bowen, Author of "Teaching Change" and the co-author of "Teaching With AI" on Tuesday, July 22 from 9 a.m. - 12: 30 p.m. This seminar is designed for school and division leaders and teacher leaders. M.Ed or Endorsement in Administration and Supervision
The University of Virginia is currently accepting applications for those wishing to pursue an M.Ed. or endorsement in Administration and Supervision this fall. This is a synchronous online program that meets one evening a week. Tuition discounts are available for Virginia Educators. Those interested in learning more about this program may sign up for our next virtual information session at this link.
