Convening Summer 2025: School-Age Child Care Workgroup
The VDOE will convene a workgroup to discuss the future of the care of school-age children in Virginia under legislative directives (Senate Bill 1084 and the 2026 Virginia Budget: House Bill 1600). Workgroup meetings will be held in person in Richmond on June 24, July 24, and September 9 (9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. on each date). Meetings will be open to in-person attendance by the public. Additional information, including meeting locations and how to submit public comment, is forthcoming.

Medication Administration Training
As child day programs gear up for summer break, programs are reminded that the medication administration training (MAT) program trains and certifies child day program providers and private school employees to give medication to children in their care. The MAT program offers a wide range of trainings whether you offer full medication administration or limit services to emergency medications. Learn more about available courses and find a MAT trainer near you on the Medical Home Plus website.
2025 Child Care Resource Fair at JMU
The 2025 Childcare Resource Fair is designed to connect childcare providers with support resources at the local, regional, and state level. This free event is hosted by the Shenandoah Valley Small Business Develepment Center and will be held on May 29 at James Madison University. Updated: Indicator 7: Child Outcomes Summary Process Technical Assistance Document
The United States Department of Education (USDOE) requires states to report data on the percent of preschoolers with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) who demonstrate improved child outcomes. To support programs in Virginia, the VDOE has updated the Indicator 7: Child Outcomes Summary Technical Assistance Document. The purpose of this document is to assist local school division teams in completing the Child Outcomes Summary (COS) process accurately and with fidelity.
