Join the Office of Child Care Health and Safety (OCCHS) for an in-person listening session in Staunton. Come any time during the session to share your questions and thoughts with leadership of the OCCHS.

Training and Professional Development Resource Page
Staff working in licensed child day programs and child day programs receiving subsidy funding are required to complete at least 16 hours of annual professional development. The VDOE collaborates with partners to provide training opportunities for child care providers. Professional development helps child care providers acquire the knowledge and skills needed to implement safe and high-quality early learning experiences. Opportunities for professional development can be found on the child care website.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
Save the Date: VPI Spring Webinar Series
VDOE is hosting a three-part webinar series to prepare school divisions for the 2025-2026 school year. VPI coordinators and VPI enrollment staff are encouraged to attend. Topics are listed below. Registration links will be sent out soon.

March 11: Best Practices for Eligibility Determination- review of determining primary vs secondary eligibility and needed documentation. Discussion of points systems and local criteria.

March 18: VPI Data and the Interconnected System- review of all VPI data sources and how this information interacts with other early childhood and K-12 data systems.

March 25: Blended Programming- overview of all publicly funded ECCE programs and how they may work together with VPI programs. Discussions on how program requirements overlap and differ will be included. As well as how funding can be braided to maximize funds.
Early Childhood Special Education
POSTPONED to March 11: Training and Reliability Session for Indicator 7: Early Childhood Outcomes
The training originally scheduled for February 20 was postponed to March 11 from 3-5 p.m. due to inclement weather. An email and link to register for the new date was sent to those previously registered. Registration is currently open only to those previously registered.
Considerations for a Smooth and Timely Transition from Part C to Part B Webinar – March 19
This webinar, presented by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Department of Education, will provide information about the transition from Early Intervention Services (Part C) to Early Childhood Special Education (Part B). The webinar will discuss regulations, decisions determined locally, program eligibility criteria, as well as tips for how the two systems can collaborate to support families. The webinar will be recorded.

VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
VQB5 Classroom Lists – Deadline to complete extended to March 3 (One week left!)
In order to ensure that the state has the most complete classroom enrollment information at VQB5 participating sites, the VDOE has extended the deadline for completing classroom lists in LinkB5 until March 3. Resources for informing families about VQB5 and the purpose of classroom lists, along with guidance for determining if parent permission is needed can be found in the VQB5 2024-2025 Classroom List Toolkit.
Sites that already completed classrooms lists in the fall do not need to take any further action this spring.

Curriculum Option Webinars - Today, February 25
This afternoon VDOE is hosting two webinars focused on exploring available vetted and approved curriculum choices for infant, toddler, and family day home classrooms participating in VQB5. Representatives from VDOE-approved early childhood curriculum options will describe key features of their curricula. A Spanish translation channel will be available. Registration is required.
