Potable Water Lead Testing Reminder
Child day programs are reminded that on January 1, VDOE began determining compliance with § 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia. The law requires all licensed child day programs, and any religious exempt child day centers and certified preschools serving preschool-age children to submit testing plans and test results for potable water to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water. Resources are available on the What’s New webpage. Please send any questions to your licensing inspector or childcarelicensing@doe.virginia.gov.
Revised Statement of Intent for Religiously Exempt Child Day Centers - Now Available Online
The statement of intent for religiously exempt child day centers has been revised in order to make the form a fillable PDF, clarify information being requested, and add reminders about statutory requirements related to potable water testing and carbon monoxide detectors. Refer to the memo that was emailed on February 14 for more information. The revised statement of intent can be found on the Religiously Exempt Child Day Center webpage of the Child Care VA website.
Revised Exemption Packet for Certified Preschools - Now Available Online
The exemption filing packet for certified preschools has been revised in order to make the required documents fillable PDFs, clarify information being requested, and add reminders about statutory requirements related to potable water testing and carbon monoxide detectors. Refer to the memo that was emailed on February 14 for more information. The revised exemption filing packet and single documents can be found on the Certified Preschools webpage of the Child Care VA website.

Considerations for a Smooth and Timely Transition from Part C to Part B Webinar – March 19
This webinar, presented by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Department of Education, will provide information about the transition from Early Intervention Services (Part C) to Early Childhood Special Education (Part B). The webinar will discuss regulations, decisions determined locally, program eligibility criteria, as well as tips for how the two systems can collaborate to support families. The webinar will be recorded.
Preparing for the Early Childhood to Kindergarten Transition Course: Provided by the VCU Autism Center for Education
This free, self-paced course, provided by the Virginia Commonwealth University Autism Center for Education (VCU-ACE) is designed for early childhood professionals and transition teams working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participants will learn to create effective timelines, coordinate across teams, and implement research-based interventions that support successful kindergarten transitions.

VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
VQB5 Spring CLASS Observation Window – January 20 - May 31
The spring local CLASS observation window opened on January 20 and runs through May 31. Every classroom participating in VQB5 will need to complete a local CLASS observation during the spring window. VQB5 sites will also need to participate in external CLASS observations. Information and resources related to VQB5 CLASS observations are listed below.

VDOE will host two webinars focused on exploring available vetted and approved curriculum choices for infant, toddler, and family day home classrooms in VQB5. Representatives from VDOE-approved early childhood curriculum options will describe key features of their curricula. A Spanish translation channel will be available. Registration is required.
Using the ELDS when Seeking Support for Children with Suspected Developmental Delays or Disabilities
These two pre-recorded webinars are designed to support leaders and educators in identifying children with delays or disabilities. Early childhood professionals will become familiar with Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education services and learn what to do when there is a concern about a child’s development.
