✉️ VDOE Readiness Connections Alert: Recent Phishing Attempt

Virginia Department of Education sent this bulletin at 12/04/2024 02:31 PM EST

The VDOE has received a notice that some program providers have received a link that appears to be from the Virginia Department of Education. This email is asking recipients to verify information by clicking a malicious link. This email did not come from the Virginia Department of Education. We have identified this email as a phishing attack. The VDOE has removed all site email addresses from public VDOE websites as we continue to assess the situation.

The email includes the following information:

Sender: cbates@fairfaxsd.us
Subject: VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION INFORMTION UPDATE.

What to do:

Immediately change the password to your email account and any accounts associated with this email.
Block the sender of the email.
Delete the email.
Alert the VDOE at vqb5@doe.virginia.gov if you receive any additional emails that do not come from an official doe.virginia.gov account.
If your organization has an IT/Security team, notify them promptly if you engaged with this email in any way.
