Virginia Preservice Training Regional Listening Session on August 22
The Office of Child Care Health and Safety (OCCHS) will host a listening session on August 22. Early childhood professionals may participate in discussions with the OCCHS concerning the Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff and the work being done to promote healthy and safe practices. This listening session is most relevant for owners and staff of subsidy approved home-based and center-based programs, and licensed child day centers.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver for 2024-2025: Now Open through August 15
This is the second of three application windows to submit the VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver, which allows school divisions to request that more than 15% of their VPI slots use locally determined eligibility criteria. Each application is reviewed by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and VDOE staff. To complete this process, ensure access to the application in SSWS by contacting your local SSWS manager.

Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education Service Delivery Model Community of Learning for Teachers (Fall 2024) - Application Due September 6
Applications are now available for the virtual Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education Service Delivery Model Community of Learning (CoL) beginning September 2024. The purpose of the CoL is to deliver targeted technical assistance to teachers endorsed in early childhood special education (ECSE) who provide special education services using the itinerant model. Applications are due on Friday, September 6, 2024. The six-session series will meet weekly beginning on September 25 or 26.

Join VCU Autism Center for Education’s Virtual Learning Community in Autism for Early Childhood beginning this fall. The four-session series titled Connection Through Communication: Empowering Early Childhood Teams to Foster Inclusivity for Young Children will focus on topics and strategies to support learners with diverse communication abilities.

Building a Culture of Safety Campaign
The Office of Head Start (OHS) works consistently to ensure that all programs nationwide prioritize the health and safety of all the children and families they serve. In the continued support of safeguarding children, OHS is launching Building a Culture of Safety Campaign that will include office hours and webinar opportunities facilitated by the National Center on Health, Behavioral Health, and Safety. To kickoff this campaign, OHS Director Khari Garvin shares his message about the culture of safety approach.
VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
VQB5 Registration Opens this Thursday, August 15!
All publicly-funded programs that serve children ages birth to five are required by state law to participate in VQB5 and must complete registration in the LinkB5 data portal between August 15 - October 1.
Fall CLASS Observations Begin on August 15
The fall observation window opens on August 15 and runs through December 22. Information and resources to support local and external CLASS observation completion can be found on the VQB5 Measuring Interactions webpage.
