Early Childhood State of the State - Updates for Summer 2024 - July 16 at 11:00 a.m.
Join Jenna Conway, Deputy Superintendent of Early Childhood Care and Education, on July 16 at 11:00 a.m. for a webinar presentation on key updates for early childhood in Virginia. This presentation will review the significant accomplishments and successes of the past year, as well as preview the work that is on the horizon. The webinar will be recorded and will be shared in future Readiness Connection Updates. Attendance is limited to 500 registrants.

Child Care Centers and Family Day Homes
Reminder: Important Dates for Child Care Providers Interested in Participating in the Child Care Subsidy Program
VQB5 registration begins August 15. Child care providers interested in becoming a subsidy vendor and participating in VQB5 for the 2024-2025 program year must submit a subsidy vendor application no later than July 15. The application process can take up to 30-45 days and processing times vary by provider type. For more information on how to apply, please visit the Child Care Subsidy Program Vendor Guides.
Applications submitted after July 15 will be processed but may not be approved in advance of the VQB5 deadline.
Scholarship Applications for Fall Semester Courses Accepted through July 22
If you are interested in applying for a Virginia Child Care Provider Scholarship, online applications will be accepted through July 22. Scholarships support the cost of in-state tuition for APPROVED courses during the FALL 2024 semester at Virginia’s Community Colleges and Montessori Certification Programs. Child Care Financing Program – Increase in Loan Eligibility Amount for Family Day Homes
The Virginia Small Business Financing Authority provides low-cost loans to eligible programs to enhance the early care and education learning environment, upgrade playgrounds, meet health and safety guidelines, and support child care business components. Effective July 1, the maximum Child Care Financing Program loan eligibility for Family Day Homes was increased to $25,000, repayable over seven years. Additionally, Child Care Centers may apply for a loan of $150,000, repayable over seven years or a $250,000 loan, repayable over ten years.

The Laurel Ridge Small Business Development Center is offering a free seminar on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Corron Community Development Center in Middletown, Virginia. During this session, information will be shared about ways the Child Care Financing Program can support start-up and expansion efforts. Seasonal Updates Webinar and Regional Listening Session on July 16
Join the Office of Child Care Health and Safety (OCCHS) for a webinar to receive updated information about the vision, goals and current events of the OCCHS as it relates to child day programs and family day systems. This webinar is relevant for licensees, owners, and directors who represent licensed programs, subsidy vendors, voluntarily registered homes, religious exempt centers, certified preschools, and license-exempt programs. Following the webinar, the OCCHS team will be available to meet with providers for an in-person listening session in the northern Virginia area. This is your opportunity to share your questions and thoughts with leadership of the OCCHS.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver for 2024-2025: Now Open through August 15
This is the second of three application windows to submit the VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver, that allows school divisions to request that more than 15% of their VPI slots use locally determined eligibility criteria. Each application is reviewed by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and VDOE staff. To complete this process, ensure access to the application in SSWS by contacting your local SSWS manager.

Fundamentals of Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Administration Webinars – Three Part Series
This three-part webinar series, to be provided on August 22, September 18, and October 2 from 10:00 -11:30 a.m., is intended for new ECSE administrators, new special education directors or those who would like a refresh on topics related to ECSE administration. The series will cover important topics, including an overview of Early Childhood and ECSE programs, VDOE guidance regarding inclusive practices, an overview of ECSE indicator data (indicators 6, 7, and 12), and Virginia Quality Birth through Five (VQB5). Participants are required to register and are encouraged to attend each session.

Summer Parent Huddle: Autism Support (VCU-ACE) on July 22
Parents are invited to join the Autism Center for Education's (ACE) Parent Huddle to learn about strategies and resources to improve communication this summer. Parent Huddles are intended to share information and helpful resources from ACE as well as hear from parents about their needs and questions. This virtual meeting is free and open to all who interact with early learners through high-school students.

Data Verification Opens in 2 Weeks!
Beginning on July 15 through July 26, all sites that participated in VQB5 during the 2023-2024 year will have the opportunity to preview their quality profiles prior to results being posted publicly this fall. Site administrators should review the information below to prepare for data verification.

VKRP Summer/ Fall Train-the-Trainer Session Registration is Live!
Annually, VKRP offers in-person and virtual training options for program-designated, VKRP Trainers to learn the VKRP Assessment System and prepare teachers and leaders for VKRP administration. School Divisions and Pre-k Programs may select one or more educators to serve as their “in-house” VKRP Trainer. Programs/Divisions are also invited to reach out to the VKRP Team if they need support in designing their teacher trainings for the 2024-25 school year.
