Public Comment on Notice of Intended Regulatory Action (NOIRA)
The Notice of Intended Regulatory Action (NOIRA) to repeal the current Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers (8VAC20-780) and replace it with a comprehensive new chapter (8VAC20-781) was published in the Virginia Register of Regulations (Volume 40, Issue 10) on January 1, 2024. Public comment will be open January 1, 2024 through January 31, 2024.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
VPI Late Enrollment for School Divisions – Open Now, Closes January 15
The Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) Late Enrollment Report is open now via the Single Sign-On Web System (SSWS) for eligible divisions who requested Late Enrollment slots during Fall Verification. This report collects enrollment data for VPI programs as of December 31. The report is due January 15.

Inclusive Classroom Profile (ICP) Virginia Reliable Observer Description and Training
Applications are now open for ICP Virginia Reliable Observers: Cohort 1. This initiative is intended for divisions and early childhood programs that plan to use the ICP in classrooms to improve the quality of inclusive practices. To learn more about the ICP and the Virginia Reliable Observer Training Process, review the ICP Virginia Reliability Description and Application. Applications are to be submitted by January 5, 2024, and training is anticipated to begin February 2024.
Online Course: Evidence Based Practices to Teach Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Educators who support students with ASD are invited to enroll in this course provided by VCU Autism Center for Education (ACE). The course provides an overview of the importance of good instruction, appropriate skill selection, and evidence-based practices, including antecedent-based interventions, visual supports, systematic instruction, and interventions to promote social and communication skills. Please note that this is not a self-paced course; there will be assignments and due dates that must be followed.

Early childhood educators work to individualize teaching and learning opportunities to ensure that all children can thrive in every setting. To support the use of these intensive practices, the National Center on Early Childhood Development Teaching and Learning has created a coaching corner series. Learn how coaches can guide educators to explore individualized practices and embed them across daily routines.

VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
Supporting Improvement
This past fall, over 10,500+ classrooms completed CLASS observations and shared information about their use of quality curriculum. This information is now being used to improve teacher-child interactions in infant, toddler and preschool classrooms. Virginia has multiple quality improvement partners that provide professional support to birth-to-five educators in alignment with the goals and measured objectives of VQB5. Early Learning Support
Registration is still open for the Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) Microcredential!
The ELDS Microcredential is open to all publicly-funded early childhood professionals in separate English and Spanish courses. Available at no-cost, this 5-hour, non-credit bearing, online, competency-based micro-credential is an introduction to Virginia’s Early Learning and Developmental Standards. Participants will be emailed course log-in information within 7 days of registering. Learners from previous cohorts may still access their course content.
