Annual Filing Requirement Reminder for Religiously Exempt Child Day Centers
The VDOE recently distributed a memo to child day centers exempt from licensure under § 22.1-289.031 of the Code of Virginia, reminding centers of the requirement to file for exemption prior to beginning operation and annually thereafter. Notices of expiration are sent to religiously exempt child day centers 90 days prior to expiration of the exemption. Information about the filing process can be found on the VDOE child care website.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
VPI/Head Start MOU Collection via SSWS
In an effort to better support coordination between Head Start and the VPI programs, as well as ensure all state expectations are being met, the VDOE Division of ECCE will collect and review Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between Head Start and VPI programs from all VPI programs. These will be collected via VPI Fall Verification in SSWS. Additional information and supporting documents have been emailed to VPI Coordinators and Head Start directors.
Early Childhood Provisional Licensure Grant
VDOE is pleased to announce the Early Childhood Provisionally Licensed Teacher Incentive Program. This program provides funding of no more than $30,000 each for school divisions, to provide financial incentives to provisionally licensed teachers in preschool programs operated by the school division. VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver for 2023-2024: Final Window Now Open, Closes October 15
This is the final of three application windows to submit the VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver, which allows school divisions to request that more than 15% of their VPI slots use locally determined eligibility criteria. Each application is reviewed by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and VDOE staff. To complete, ensure access to the application in SSWS by contacting your local SSWS manager.

In-Person Event: The ABCs of Behavior on November 16
The Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC), in partnership with the Colonial Heights Public Schools Family Resource Center and Special Education Advisory Committee, is offering an in-person event. Families will become familiar with the ABCs of behavior, learn strategies to address challenging behavior, and gain a basic understanding of functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs). Dinner and on-site childcare will be provided.

Registration Open for STREAMin3 Trainer Support Series
Who: All early childhood professionals who support educators currently using STREAMin3. This includes but is not limited to curriculum specialists, program administrators, and coaching partners. It’s designed for those that worked with STREAMin3 last year and those that are new to supporting STREAMin3 in their programs.
What: A combination of in-person, live online, office hours, and one-on-one supports. These trainings and supports are new and designed to give participants a hands-on experience to be able to help educators grow in their implementation of STREAMin3.
