Phase I: Pre-Application Training for Licensed Child Day Centers
The VDOE is pleased to announce that the Phase I: Pre-Application Training for Licensed Child Day Centers has been updated and reposted on the Department’s childcare website. This training reviews the application process and important details to consider prior to applying for initial licensure. Anyone interested in opening a licensed child day center is encouraged to complete this free online training.

September VPI Office Hours- Special Guest Kris Meyers, Associate Director of Quality, Measurement and Improvement
VPI Coordinators are invited to join office hours on September 7 at 11a.m. Kris Meyers, Associate Director of Quality, Measurement and Improvement, will be joining to answer questions on VQB5 for the Virginia Preschool Initiative and school-based preschool coordinators. There will be no set presentation, office hours are an open time for questions and brainstorming. As with all office hours, registration is required.

Early Childhood Special Education
Fundamentals of Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Administration: Webinar Recordings
On August 10 and 17, the VDOE presented the Fundamentals of Early Childhood Special Education Administration webinars. The purpose was to deliver targeted technical assistance to school division leaders who act as the program administrator for early childhood special education (ECSE) programs. This two-part series provided an overview of the Early Childhood system and key elements related to implementing quality programs for preschool children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education Service Delivery Model Community of Learning for Teachers: Applications due September 8
Applications are available for two virtual Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education Service Delivery Model Communities of Learning (CoLs). The purpose of the CoLs is to deliver targeted technical assistance to teachers endorsed in early childhood special education (ECSE) who provide special education services using the itinerant model. Applications are due on Friday, September 8, 2023. The six-session series will meet weekly beginning on September 25 or 26.

VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
VQB5 Registration Now Open - Deadline Extended to October 3
On Tuesday, August 15, LinkB5 experienced technical issues that resulted in some users not being able to access their registration profiles. The technical issue has since been resolved, and the LinkB5 data portal is open and available to complete the required VQB5 Registration for the 2023-2024 program year. Due to this issue, VDOE has extended the deadline for VQB5 Registration to make up for the lost day. The new VQB5 Registration Deadline is Tuesday, October 3, 2023. This new deadline will also apply to RecognizeB5, meaning teachers who register by October 3 will still be considered for eligibility in RecognizeB5.

Early Learning Support
Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS) Introductory Microcredential Registration is Now Open!
A new enrollment period for the ELDS Microcredential, developed through a partnership with the Vinod Chacra IMPACT Lab at Radford University is open to all publicly-funded early childhood professionals in either English or Spanish. Available at no-cost, this 5-hour, non-credit bearing, online, self- and competency-based micro-credential is an introduction to Virginia’s early learning and developmental standards. Radford Learning Coaches are available and PD certificates can be downloaded upon completion.
