Board of Education Announces New Leadership
RICHMOND — Three new Board members appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin on July 7 began their service on the Virginia Board of Education on July 25. New board members are as follows:
- Mashea M. Ashton of McLean, founder and CEO of Digital Pioneers Academy.
- Debbie Kilgore of Gate City, a retired family and consumer science teacher and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America advisor from Gate City High in Scott County.
- Amber Northern of Henrico County, senior vice-president for research at Thomas B. Fordham Institute.
On July 25, the State Board also elected new board leadership with Grace Turner Creasey elected Board of Education president and Bill Hansen elected vice-president.
“It is an honor to serve as the president of the board,” Board of Education President Grace Creasey said. “The children of our great commonwealth deserve a best-in-class education. The Board will continue to raise expectations for our educational system and we know that our students will rise to meet them.”
“I am excited to continue the important work of the board with our new board members,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Lisa Coons said. “There is important work that lies ahead as we focus on providing a best in class education to our Commonwealth’s students. I look forward to doing this work together in collaboration with this new Board.”
