The Virginia Board of Education is Seeking Nominees for Early Childhood Advisory Committee (ECAC) Vacancies
All interested nominees must complete a nomination form by August 11, 2023. The form must be completed in its entirety, including supplemental questions that will be sent via email to the nominee. Self-nominations are accepted. ECAC membership is prescribed in the Code of Virginia. The ECAC has the following vacancies:
- A representative from a Head Start provider not operated by a local school division (term expires June 30, 2024)
- A representative from a business in the Commonwealth (term expires June 30, 2024)
- A representative from a statewide nonprofit association in the Commonwealth whose membership includes both before-school and after-school nonprofit child-care providers and nonprofit preschool (term expires June 30, 2024)

Virginia Child Care College Scholarship Program: Last Week to Apply for Fall Semester
If you would like to take college courses to enhance your career in early childhood, this is the last week to submit an application for the 2023 Fall Semester through the Virginia Child Care Scholarship Program. The scholarship covers tuition for up to two early childhood (or degree-related) college courses per semester for eligible early educators. Fall 2023 applications will be accepted through August 1. Obtaining Fingerprints Through Fieldprint
As programs work to fill positions in preparation for the upcoming school year, child care providers are reminded that Instructions for Completing Background Checks can be found on the VDOE child care website. Prospective employees of regulated child day programs should register for fingerprint appointments with Fieldprint using the hiring agency’s Fieldprint facility ID. If you do not know your facility ID, contact the Office of Background Investigations at 804-726-7884 or backgrounds@dss.virginia.gov.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
SAVE THE DATE: VPI New Coordinator Webinar on August 15
The VDOE will host a training for VPI Coordinators new to their position for the 2023-2024 school year. Reporting timelines and other annual requirements will be reviewed. This session will be recorded and sent to all registered participants as well as posted to the VPI website after completion. Registration is required.

Early Childhood Special Education
Register Today: Fundamentals of Early Childhood Special Education Administration – Webinars on August 10 and August 17
This two-part webinar series is intended for new ECSE administrators, new special education directors, and those who would like a refresh on topics related to ECSE administration. The series will cover important topics, including an overview of Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education programs, VDOE guidance regarding inclusive practices, an overview of ECSE indicator data (indicators 6, 7, and 12), and VQB5. Participants should attend both sessions.

Head Start
OHS FY24 Monitoring Process for Head Start and Early Head Start Recipients
Since the public health emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic has ended, the OHS has suspended flexibilities outlined in 45CFR 1304.17 for the upcoming program year. To guide recipients, Information Memorandum ACF-IM-HS-23-04 was released that details the expectations for the upcoming FY24 monitoring review process. Federal Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observations will resume and scoring will be utilized in the OHS Designation Renewal System determinations. All monitoring reviews are scheduled to begin in October 2023
VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
Practice Year 2 Data Verification is in the FINAL week - Open through Friday, July 28!
All sites that are receiving a VQB5 Practice Year 2 Quality Profile now have the opportunity to participate in a data verification process between July 17 - July 28. Site administrators who participated in Practice Year 2, should log into their LinkB5 accounts to complete Practice Year 2 Data Verification by the July 28 deadline. Details about data verification are provided below:

Participating programs may sign up for the Live Online, In-Person, or On Demand training option that best fits the needs of your program.
