Early Childhood Workforce Survey for VQB5 Educators – Last Week!
Do you work at an early childhood program participating in VQB5? If so, the deadline to complete the ECCE Workforce Survey is this Friday! The Study of Early Education through Partnerships at UVA will send 2 more emails with a survey link to eligible educators who have not yet taken this optional survey. Air Quality and Forecasts
In light of the smoke impacts from the Canadian wildfires, and in honor of National Safety month, the VDOE is reminding educators and caregivers to regularly check the air quality levels provided by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) when planning for outdoor time. Outdoor activity may need to be adjusted based on weather and air quality conditions. Check the DEQ website for current air quality levels or to sign up for daily notifications.
Child Care Provider Legislative Updates Webinar on June 22
Join the Office of Child Care Health and Safety for a webinar to learn about new laws related to child day programs and family day systems. This webinar is relevant for licensees, owners, and directors who represent licensed programs, subsidy vendors, voluntarily registered homes, religious exempt centers, certified preschools, and license-exempt programs. Registration is limited to 500 registrants, but the webinar will be recorded and streamed live on VDOE’s YouTube channel on June 22.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
The Virginia Association for Infant Mental Health (VAIMH) is now accepting Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement® Applications for its first ECMH-E® Cohort.
The Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Focused Practice Promoting Early Childhood Mental Health® serves to equip early childhood professionals with the tools that will support and promote the social-emotional development and mental health of young children (age 3-6) and their families. The ECMH-E® is for professionals in early care and education programs, family support programs, child welfare, and social and behavioral health service systems, among many others. The Endorsement credential is a way for professionals to document that they have met certain competencies through specialized training, work experience, and/or education and Reflective Supervision.

Registration Open: Regional Communication Workshops (VCU Autism Center for Education)
Cultivating Communication for All: Building Communication Rich Classrooms & Supporting Prosocial Behaviors is a free one-day workshop presented by the VCU Autism Center for Education (VCU-ACE). The purpose is to equip special educators with information, resources, and tools for their students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who have communication and behavior support needs. Workshops are scheduled regionally throughout the month of July. Space is limited, so register today.
Podcast Episode: Supporting Interactions in Special Needs Settings
In this episode, Fairfax County Public Schools Early Childhood Special Education Coaches, Jess Schuhart, Cindy Sigsbee, and Christie Johnson share their experiences using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) tool in Early Childhood Special Education classrooms. Listen to learn more about how they are using CLASS to improve teacher-child interactions in settings that serve children with disabilities.

Opportunities to Support the Mental Health and Well-being of the Early Care and Education (ECE) Workforce
In response to the Biden Administration’s Executive Order on Increasing Access to High-Quality Care and Supporting Caregivers, a joint communication from the Office of Child Care, Office of Head Start, and the Office of Early Childhood Development was shared with the field. This communication acknowledges the need for increased mental health supports to address the persistent challenges associated with the ECE workforce crisis. At VDOE we continue the commitment to ensuring that the ECE workforce continues to thrive in its work with children and families.
VQB5 - Virginia's Unified Measurement and Improvement System
VQB5 Practice Year 2 Quality Profiles
This summer, the VDOE will use CLASS scores from the fall and spring, along with curriculum use information to calculate practice ratings for the 2,600 sites who participated in VQB5 Practice Year 2. Sites will have an opportunity to preview their practice year profiles during data verification at the end of July. Practice Year 2 Quality Profiles will then be finalized and shared privately with sites in September.
